Aviva is looking for a dynamic Principal Data Scientist to help drive innovation and impact within our Retail team.

Our team is recognised as a centre of excellence within the Global Data Science Department - delivering data-driven insights that enhance decision-making across the Aviva Group.

A bit about the job:

As a data science leader within the Personal Lines business, you'll work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to understand key challenges and lead the development of innovative data science solutions that drive better outcomes for both the business and our customers. You'll develop a deep understanding of the business strategy and objectives, and lead a team focused on delivering impactful solutions. You'll also have the freedom to explore creative and forward-thinking approaches to unlocking value from data.

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in Pricing & Underwriting Analytics within personal lines insurance.

Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Proven ability to solve complex, non-routine problems using expertise in areas such as Statistics, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or AI.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills - able to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness.
  • Experience delivering projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams or external partners.
  • Highly numerate, with a degree or postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc) in a relevant field such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science (preferred but not essential).
