Our lab aims to understand how the lung microbiome contributes to chronic lung disease. We combine advanced airway sampling and dense longitudinal collection with state of the art ‘omic approaches to accurately describe the ecology of the respiratory microbiome in both space and time to define causal relationships to lung pathobiology.

We are seeking aPostdoctoral Researcher in Bioinformaticsto support cutting-edge projects at the interface of host-microbiome interactions, spatial transcriptomics, and metagenomics.

You will be responsible for:

  • Develop and apply computational methods for analysingspatial transcriptomics,host transcriptomics, and bacterialmetagenomicdatasets.
  • Integrate multi-omics data to investigate host-microbiome interactions
  • Work closely with experimental biologists to process and interpret high-throughput sequencing data.
  • Contribute to manuscript writing and presentations at scientific conferences.
  • Support the training of PhD students and researchers in bioinformatics techniques

About You:

We are looking for an ambitious individual who wants to lead projects and develop their own ideas. You will be expected to be an active member of the team and collaborate with other teams inside and outside of the institute.

Essential Technical Skills:

  • PhD in relevant subject area, or on track to be awarded your PhD within 6 months of starting the role
  • Proven ability to deliver research projects
  • A track record of demonstrating research excellence and expertise in your area of research
  • The ability to analyse and interpret genomic and transcriptomic data with strong quantitative/computational skills
  • Programming and bioinformatics skills
  • Strong programming skills (Python, R, Bash, or similar) and experience with high-performance computing.
  • Expertise in analysing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, particularly single-cell or spatial transcriptomics, bulk transcriptomics or bacterial metagenomics

About Us:
This position would place you within Dr Josie Bryant’s team within the Parasites and Microbes Programme, set within a world-leading genomics institute. You would be working closely with informaticians, wet-lab biologists, Postdoctoral Fellows and PhD students within the group and across this programme. You will be required to coordinate analysis of multiple project datasets and identify and establish new collaborations and projects, as well as to form part of an integrated team. You will have substantial support and opportunities to broaden your skill-set and further your career.
