Take Control of Data: MySQL Database Administrator
Data is the heartbeat of any organisation. Keeping it secure, optimised, and always available is a challenge that only a select few can master. If you are a seasoned MySQL Database Administrator, someone who thrives in high-pressure, 24/7 operational environments, and wants to be at the forefront of database excellence, this is your opportunity.
Your Mission: Keeping the Data Flowing
From day one, you will be the guardian of mission-critical databases, ensuring that every query, every transaction, and every system that relies on MySQL is running smoothly and efficiently.
You will take ownership of designing, building, and maintaining robust database infrastructures in Linux environments, making sure they are secure, optimised, and always available. Whether it is tuning performance, managing high-availability clusters, or implementing disaster recovery strategies, your expertise will keep systems resilient and responsive.
Your role will not just be about maintaining databases. You will collaborate with developers, optimising schemas, queries, and indexes to ensure applications are as efficient as possible. You will be the go-to person for technical leadership, mentoring junior team members and shaping best practices across the organisation.
What You Will Work With:
🛠 Database Excellence – Design, implement, and manage MySQL databases in high-availability, 24/7 clustered environments.
⚡ Performance Optimisation – Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring lightning-fast query responses.
🔄 Backup & Recovery – Implement robust backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and security.
📊 Cross-Platform Knowledge – Work with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and porting between database systems when needed.
🔒 Security & Compliance – Conduct regular security assessments, applying best practices to safeguard critical data.
🤝 Collaboration & Mentorship – Work closely with developers and IT teams, sharing knowledge and guiding best practices.
🔍 Automation & Innovation – Use Python, Bash, or other scripting languages to automate tasks and improve efficiency.
What Success Looks Like
Fast forward a year, and you have made a significant impact. Database performance is better than ever. High-availability systems are running smoothly. Disaster recovery plans are tested and ready. Developers rely on your insights to optimise applications, and junior team members look up to you for guidance.
You are not just keeping databases running; you are shaping the future of data management, implementing new technologies, refining best practices, and helping the organisation scale with confidence.
Who You Are:
âś” At least five years of experience as a MySQL DBA, with deep knowledge of database architecture, queries, and performance tuning.
âś” Skilled in high-availability solutions, including clustering, replication, and failover.
âś” Experienced in backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data security and resilience.
âś” Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments where uptime is critical.
âś” Strong problem-solver with a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
âś” Great communicator, able to collaborate with development teams and mentor juniors.
âś” Familiar with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and database migrations.
âś” Experienced with scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation.
Your Next Move
If you are ready to take control of mission-critical databases, optimise performance at scale, and work with a team that values excellence, collaboration, and innovation, this is your chance.
