ABOUT DIVISION

This position supports the EMEA Advertising Sales Team, which is tasked with generating ad revenue across the Europe, Middle East & Africa Region. The team collaborates closely with clients & media agencies to sell integrated advertising proposals across the BBC portfolio, including TV, digital, audio, and branded content.

THE ROLE

The Media Planning Director EMEA is a pivotal role in leading the planning and execution of digital, audio and TV media strategies for the EMEA ad sales team. This role requires a deep understanding of multi-platform media planning, ad sales operations, and campaign management, alongside an ability to provide strategic direction and guidance to the sales planners. The Media Planning Director will need to ensure that all campaigns in the EMEA region are optimised to meet client objectives, driving renewals and revenue growth. The role acts as a crucial liaison between ad sales, clients, and internal operations teams and is responsible for implementing and maintaining end-to-end processes for efficiency, consistency and accuracy in service of BBC’s business goals.

This role will have oversight of Media Planning across two functions:
Pre-sale -supporting ongoing selling activities across digital, programmatic, audio and linear channels; inclusive of proposal creation, campaign implementation and budget allocation.
Post-sale -seamless delivery of advertising campaigns and excellent client service management, ultimately serving as the key leader for client renewals.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Strategic Media Sales Planning

  • Lead the development and implementation of digital, audio and TV sales planning strategies in region, ensuring alignment with regional and global objectives.
  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise on BBC’s full suite of advertising offerings.
  • Consult with Sales and internal stakeholders to support ongoing selling activities across digital, programmatic, audio, and linear.
  • Lead and manage high-value and complex media plans and campaigns when required to do so by senior management, providing strategic oversight to ensure optimal delivery and revenue recognition.
  • Analyse market trends and sales/inventory data in collaboration with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for revenue growth and provide actionable insights to sales teams and senior management.
  • Partner with planners and their sales teams to create comprehensive, actionable and effective sales media plans and proposals that are audience first and leverage BBC’s broad array of platforms and capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain a trusted advisor status within the wider EMEA team by delivering expert advice on media planning solutions and sales strategies via liaising with Media Planning Leads in APAC & US markets.

Campaign Management and Optimisation

  • Oversee the successful management of campaigns: Ensure consistency and accuracy in proposals and pitch materials, ongoing reporting and optimizations, wrap reports, etc.
  • Work with sales planners to implement best practice with regards to planning, setup, and execution of digital and TV campaigns, ensuring they meet client objectives and align to BBC Sales policy and compliance standards.
  • When required, allocate, manage and support media planning tasks with regional Sales Planners, ensuring effective and efficient load balancing for the regional sales team in times of high demand.
  • Work with sales and integrated marketing to lead regular campaign performance reviews with clients and internal teams to assess campaign effectiveness, address issues, and implement optimisation strategies.
  • Work with Integrated Marketing to help prepare detailed reports and presentations for campaign reviews when required and support senior management, outlining sales performance, market opportunities, and strategic recommendations e.g. opportunities for contract extensions, renewals, and upsells.
  • Collaborate with Ad Operations to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize campaigns for increased engagement and ROI.
  • Identify and escalate system issues, priorities, and process gaps to continually improve efficiency in service of revenue growth and client retention.

Leadership and Development

  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand new products and content in order to build out commercial advertising opportunities for clients.
  • Foster strong relationships and collaboration with internal teams that are involved in the commercial business: Sales leadership, Storyworks, Insights, Marketing, Ad product & Ad ops.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and agency contacts across the region in partnership with the sales leads, acting as the primary point of contact for strategic campaign planning and execution when needed.
  • Partner with senior sales management in the hiring, training, and upskilling of Media Planners to ensure that regional Sales Planners meet objectives and contribute to the overall success of the organization.
  • Mentor and coach Sales Planners, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Own, develop and deliver BBC aligned sales training programs & workshops for sales planners to enhance understanding of digital and TV sales strategies and technical capabilities and thus ensure best in class sales planning teams across the region.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

  • Extensive experience in digital and TV media planning and sales, with a strong focus on strategic planning and execution.
  • Proven track record in managing and optimising ad campaigns across multiple platforms, with deep knowledge and expertise of media planning, ad-serving and data systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and customers, delivering exceptional customer service experience.
  • Prior role within a sizable media agency or publisher/sales environment with demonstrable experience in delivering impact.
  • Advanced knowledge of digital and video advertising tools and platforms, including programmatic advertising, data management platforms, and CRM systems.
  • Previous experience in leading teams across various geographic markets and managing cross-functional projects within a highly complex organisation.
  • Professional certifications in digital marketing, data analytics, or related fields are advantageous.

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION

Band: E

Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 + London Weighting (£5,319) depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Bonus: 25%

Contract: Perm

Location: Office Base is London: This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.
