This well-funded and internationally recognised group are looking for a Data Scientist to extend their capabilities as they conduct fundamental and wide-ranging research. They are focused on developing underlying data science and ML/AI technologies and algorithms for the defence sector. This includes investigating new uses for existing techniques as well as foundational advancements in the state-of-the-art.
This team aren’t looking for you to have one key specialism, instead they are looking for someone with a broad range of skills and knowledge in the AI/ML field and beyond. You might be working on problems related to satellites or cryptography or radar or any one of a long list of other areas this team work on. It is therefore important for you to be adaptable with an extensive set of tools and techniques at your disposal.
Requirements:
A PhD and academic or commercial experience in developing AI models/algorithms including understanding their failure modes and how they could be exploited. Significant programming skills related to algorithm development and statistical analysis. Ideally using Python with established scientific and engineering libraries / frameworks. High-level security clearance is required for this role and so only candidates who have lived in the UK for the last 5-years can be considered.
While not required, specific expertise in cyber defence, space systems, or radar detectors and classifiers would be beneficial.
Located in central London close to good travel links around the capital and to the surrounding areas, this team work from around the UK meeting up one day per week. On offer alongside the competitive salary are a range of benefits including 30 days annual holiday (plus bank holidays) and generous employer pension contributions. Initially this is a 3-year contract.
