The Lead Data Engineer will help shape the future of data driven innovation in healthcare by building robust data systems that power intelligent decision-making.

Reporting into the Head of Application and Data Architecture for Corporate Functions (covering Finance, People, Risk, Audit and Legal), you will provide technical leadership to a data platform team, with accountability for creating and managing data pipelines, databases, and data tools that ensure data is clean, well-organised, and readily accessible for analysis and strategic decision-making.

The role holder will confidently communicate complex data concepts to senior management and lead data engineers to solve business problems. You’ll be responsible for architecting a data platform, data design specification and hands on coding if/when required.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our digital transformation, responsible for:

  • Designing and delivering scalable data engineering solutionsthat balance performance, security, and usability.

  • Driving requirements gathering and stakeholder engagementfor complex initiatives, ensuring alignment and clarity across the board.

  • Leading software development efforts, from architecture to deployment, using modern tools and best practices.

  • Modelling and designing enterprise data structuresto support analytics, business intelligence, and operational needs.

  • Implementing a robust data platform, ensuring high availability and performance.

  • Championing continuous integration and release management, streamlining delivery pipelines and ensuring smooth rollouts.

  • Architecting and integrating systemswith a focus on automation, scalability, and resilience.

  • Improving products and services through data-driven insights, identifying opportunities to enhance user experiences and business outcomes.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

  • Extensive experience indata engineering, software development, and systems integrationat a senior level.

  • Accountability for the implantation of full data lifecycle—from design and development to deployment and optimisation is highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge and experience ofdata pipelines, data modelling, database design, and data warehousing.

  • Proficiency in Snowflake, Power BI and medallion architecture. Ideal candidates will have been accountable for building out a data platform capability on GCP Big Query or Snowflake, implementing a medallion model and creating a secure and reusable consumption layer with demanding security requirements.

  • You will have extensive experience in developing in multiple languages (including Python and Node.JS), integrating complex data sources across different authentication approaches and transforming complex multi-dimensional data sources using tools such as DBT.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a solutions orientated mindset and a resilient, focused approach.

  • Expertise inrequirements management, stakeholder negotiation, and agile delivery.

  • Familiarity withrelease management, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.

  • A strategic mindset with the ability todocument and drive changefrom “as-is” to “to-be” states.

  • Passion forcontinuous improvementand leveraging data to drive innovation.
