This is a unique opportunity to evolve a large-scale data platform into its next phase—AI-ready, real-time, and product-driven. The organisation is investing heavily in Data Lake 2.0, with a roadmap to improve reliability, data quality, and scalability.

Lead Data Engineer | £80,000 - £90,000 + 10% Bonus + Benefits | Hybrid (3 Days in Liverpool Street Office)

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of scalable data solutions using Databricks, Spark, and Azure Synapse
  • Drive the transformation of the existing platform to support AI-driven use cases and real-time data products
  • Collaborate with architects and engineering leaders to ensure robust, resilient, and testable code
  • Champion engineering best practices and CI/CD automation
  • Mentor engineers and foster a collaborative, low-dependency team culture
  • Influence platform strategy, including cost optimisation, governance, and innovation
Strategic Impact
  • Help shape the future of the organisation’s data platform to support AI at scale
  • Contribute to two AI use cases this year, with more planned as infrastructure evolves
  • Play a key role in preparing the platform for future releases and next-gen capabilities
  • Drive improvements in data reliability and quality, enabling smarter decision-making
Key Requirements
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering
  • Proven delivery of 1–2 data lake implementations
  • Experience building Spark jobs processing terabytes of data
  • Experience working with Architects, QA, Engineering Managers, and Technical Leads
  • Demonstrated team leadership or mentoring experience
  • Telecoms experience (higher salary potential for strong domain knowledge)
  • Passion for experimenting with new technologies
Working Model
  • Hybrid: 3 days per week in the Liverpool Street office
