At Castle Trust Bank we pride ourselves in being a fintech challenger bank, providing specialist property mortgages, retail finance lending and savings accounts to a variety of customers.

We’re modernising our data landscape — and we’re looking for a Lead Business Intelligence Developer who wants to shape the future of reporting, modelling, and data governance in a growing fintech environment.

What you’ll lead and deliver:

In this role, you will own the data model design and delivery of high-quality reporting solutions, shaping the strategic direction of business intelligence across the Bank. You'll take pride in delivering high-quality reporting solutions using your core toolkits: Power BI, DAX for models and visualisation and SQL for data extracts. Experience with Microsoft Fabric is desirable as this is on our short-term roadmap. Improving data governance and reporting standards will be central to your impact.

Data model design will be one of your core competencies, and you’ll enjoy working with business analysts and stakeholders to translate source data and reporting needs into elegant models and insights. You’ll be skilled at stakeholder management and prioritisation, ensuring clear plans and timely delivery.

You'll lead a team of two Business Intelligence Analysts, driving a culture of technical excellence and personal development within the team.

You will have a passion for innovation, fascination with new technologies, and you'll be excited to champion them to generate business benefits.

You will play a pivotal role in helping Castle Trust become a more data‑empowered organisation — and you’ll shape the tools, processes, and habits that get us there.

This is a hybrid role based in Basingstoke, with flexibility to work 2 days from home per week.

What you’ll bring:

We are looking for a strong analytical and business-focused individual, with a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable insight. A product-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering reusable, governed data assets that support self-service analytics. In addition, we would like you to have the following:

  • Experience producing clear documentation and specifications.
  • Confident delivering training and enabling users to adopt analytics tools effectively.

  • Awareness of modern data technologies and trends in the BI and analytics space.

Desirable

  • Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in computer science or data analytics.
  • Experience with implementing Microsoft Fabric to support Power BI.

  • A background in regulated or financial services environments.

Why join Castle Trust Bank?

How Many Data Science Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Data Science Job?

If you’re trying to break into data science — or progress your career — it can feel like you are drowning in names: Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, SQL, Spark, AWS, Scikit-learn, Jupyter, Tableau, Power BI…the list just keeps going. With every job advert listing a different combination of tools, many applicants fall into a trap: they try to learn everything. The result? Long tool lists that sound impressive — but little depth to back them up. Here’s the straight-talk version most hiring managers won’t explicitly tell you: 👉 You don’t need to know every data science tool to get hired. 👉 You need to know the right ones — deeply — and know how to use them to solve real problems. Tools matter, but only in service of outcomes. So how many data science tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the answer is not “27” — it’s more like 8–12, thoughtfully chosen and well understood. This guide explains what employers really value, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to focus your toolbox so your CV and interviews shine.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Data Science Job Applications (UK Guide)

In competitive markets, recruiters and hiring managers often make their first decisions in the first 10–20 seconds of scanning an application — and in data science, there are specific signals they look for first. Data science isn’t just about coding or statistics — it’s about producing insights, shipping models, collaborating with teams, and solving real business problems. This guide helps you understand exactly what hiring managers look for first in data science applications — and how to structure your CV, portfolio and cover letter so you leap to the top of the shortlist.
