Job Purpose

Data Warehouse Engineer

Job Purpose

To support the development of data as an asset and though the implementation and development of data design methodologies, optimisation, configurations and planning.

As a Data Warehouse Engineer, you will be responsible for aspects of data management including :-

  • Supporting the Data Warehousing platform
  • Developing data structures (views/Interfaces) based on business requirements
  • Supporting users to ensure that they implementing the right data for their solution
  • Maintenance and Documentation of processes and Data structures
  • Improving performance and Cost Optimisation

Essential

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Several years’ experience of SQL/database design and data modelling to develop data solutions including Database design
  • Experienced in the design and implementation of Azure Synapse Data Warehouse in a commercial environment
  • Required to develop data assets in line with the requirements of and in partnership with Data Analytics, Data Science and Business Intelligence (BI) teams and in partnership with the ETL Team.
  • Organizational skills including taking ownership of your work schedule and assist with planning and prioritisation of jobs aligning all requirements with objectives of a business
  • Supports effective business analysis through analytical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Use data management tools to map business processes to define and develop the metadata model.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in fault diagnosis and resolution of data issues
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Good documentation skills and the ability to review documentation written by others
  • Understanding and / or a willingness to learn about of the principles of Data Governance and GDPR in order that they are incorporated into designs and specifications.

Desirable

  • Degree or similar qualification in IT or other scientific discipline
  • Knowledge of Informatica IICS / Synapse tooling as a solution
  • Lead and support the development and implementation of best practice and standards
  • Work with teams to optimise data processes and formatting for optimised availability for Power BI users
  • Work with wider BI and data warehouse teams to provide insight into security standards etc
  • Able to get hands on in the delivery of data pipelines of required
  • Knowledge of BI Tooling

  • Develop data into asset rather than information with properties like assigned data type, developed relationships to sources
  • Design and build scalable, reliable and high-performance data-driven solutions
  • Prepare documentation for database solutions.
  • Responsible for practical, hands-on delivery of architecture and creating high quality data solutions
  • Design, build and implement high performance data solutions while adhering to company policies and industry accepted best practices.
  • Maintain and improve knowledge and expertise to effectively perform development activities.
  • Define, collect, and measure success or failure of product and feature developments through relevant metrics and KPIs
  • You will engage and work with business data governance forums and decision bodies to support data owners and stewards to define, agree, and communicate business data standards.
  • Report regularly on the current progress of projects and concerns
  • Attend any training as agreed
  • Keep abreast of latest and emerging development methodologies and technologies.
  • Document applications so that other team members can support them.
  • Deliver solutions in line with Change Management Processes
  • Provide software support to business users and colleagues as required
  • Perform proactive monitoring of supported systems in order to identify any potential issues and minimise any potential disruption to the business
  • Facilitate the transfer of knowledge throughout the team
