Job Description

J.L. Partners is looking to hire a new data scientist to join our insight and strategy business, and to continue to build the data operation that delivered the most accurate models of the 2024 elections cycle.

We want to hire the very best - candidates who combine strong data skills with the ability to turn analysis into clear, actionable insights for clients.

We are looking for enthusiastic self-starters with a proven ability to apply advanced quantitative analysis to real-world social, political, or corporate challenges.

The ideal candidate will pair deep understanding of statistics and social science with hands-on experience working with complex datasets and building or deploying analytical models. They will be able to extract reliable insights, visualise complex information clearly, and translate their findings into meaningful recommendations for clients.

Data science skills are our priority for this role, and we are open to considering highly skilled data scientists without political or market research experience.

You will be:

  • Manipulating and processing data collected from private opinion polling using statistical software to provide compelling insights;
  • Building models to analyse data, and apply advanced analytics tools to capture key research insights;
  • Visualising data for use in presentations and briefings, and
  • Providing advice and insight to the core team
  • Working to develop and expand JLP’s analytics offering and capabilities

    Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of one or more programming languages
  • Data manipulation skills - e.g SQL, Pandas, or dplyr
  • An excellent academic record, including a undergraduate degree in a STEM subject with a strong data science component or equivalent.
  • Strong mathematical ability - particularly in linear algebra and Bayesian statistics
  • A minimum of four days a week in our Holborn office, preferably Monday to Thursday
  • Ability to manage time effectively and tight deadlines; flexibility to adapt to different projects and client needs
  • The ability to visualise complicated data in the simplest possible way

    Desirable:

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field such as statistics and/or programming/data science
  • Experience manipulating and processing data collected from opinion polling or survey research.
  • Familiarity with macOS / Unix / Linux command line tools
  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills.
  • Experience using R packages such as ggplot and tidyverse.
  • A strong interest in politics and/or statistics.
