My client is looking for a motivated and skilled Geotechnical / Geo-environmental Engineer to join their Sheffield office. This is your opportunity to work on a broad variety of ground engineering and environmental projects that shape communities and safeguard the future.

The Opportunity

As part of their growing geotechnical and geo-environmental team, you’ll be involved in every stage of site investigation and assessment, from fieldwork to final reporting. Your day-to-day role will include:

Site Investigations: Conducting and supervising site activities such as trial pitting, soakaway testing, borehole logging, foundation inspections, mine working grouting, and remediation verification.
Technical Supervision: Overseeing on-site construction and remediation works, including foundation inspections, mine stabilisation, and contaminated land treatments.
Report Writing: Producing comprehensive Phase 1 Desk Studies and Phase 2 Site Investigation Reports, Earthworks Specifications, Coal Mining Risk Assessments, and Verification Reports.
Client Liaison: Communicating with clients, contractors, regulators, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
Design Input: Providing geotechnical advice for foundation design, slope stability, ground improvement, and contamination risk assessment.
Risk Assessment: Conducting detailed quantitative risk assessments and recommending mitigation strategies.

What You’ll Bring

We’re seeking someone with a solid technical background and a proactive approach to problem solving. Ideally, you’ll have:

A degree (BSc/BA) or master’s (MSc/MEng) in Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience conducting and managing geotechnical and/or geo-environmental site investigations.
Strong technical report writing and analytical skills.
Confidence working both independently and collaboratively, on-site and in-office.
A full UK driving licence and access to a car (mileage allowance provided).
You should be working toward professional membership of a relevant body such as The Geological Society or ICE. Fieldwork readiness and a practical understanding of UK ground conditions are essential.
