Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for an Environmental and Consents Manager on a 12 month contract based in Leeds and York.
Role Summary
We have a very exciting opportunity for an Experienced Environmental and
Consents Manager to deliver and oversee environmental management for YORKSHIRE GREEN project. The project comprises of two new substations located at Overton (near York) and Monk Fryston (near Leeds)
In this role you will be accountable and responsible for leading the delivery programme off the back of the low-level solution design and scope in time and on budget as a minimum. You will be responsible for seeing all environmental and sustainability activities within the Smart Infrastructure team, which is a rapidly growing area within the UK.
This role will encompass strategic planning, project execution, risk management, subcontractor
management, budget control, and client communication, contributing significantly to the company's
sustainability goals and reputation for environmental excellence.
The role will act as a key point of contact for environmental matters across multiple projects and will play a crucial role in shaping the company's sustainable future.
As a Senior Team member, you will be responsible for client and end user engagement during pre-
construction, construction and handover. Reporting process and issue resolution to the most to the
appointed project senior stakeholder.
In relation to scale, project ranges from small to £0.5m+ works with multiple projects delivered
concurrently as part of our digital growth strategy; helping to define and grow the team to support will also be a significant part of the role.
Main roles and responsibilities:
Ø Strategic Planning & Implementation: Develop and implement environmental and sustainability
strategies for projects and the company as a whole, aligning with broader corporate goals and ESG
targets.
Ø Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Lead and manage all aspects of EIAs, including scoping,
baseline surveys, impact prediction, mitigation measures, and report preparation, ensuring
compliance with legal requirements.
Ø Environmental Management Systems (EMS): Develop, implement, and maintain EMSs in accordance with ISO 14001 or similar standards, ensuring consistent and effective environmental
performance.
Ø Permitting, Consenting & Compliance: Secure necessary environmental permits and licenses, ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant UK legislation (e.g., Environmental Permitting Regulations, Habitats Regulations, Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations), and manage potential non-compliance incidents.
Ø Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, local communities, and other stakeholders, proactively communicating environmental aspects of projects.
Ø Subcontractor Management: Select, manage, and monitor environmental subcontractors, ensuring high-quality work, compliance with health and safety regulations, and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
Ø Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks across all projects, developing and implementing appropriate risk management strategies.
Ø Due Diligence: Conduct environmental due diligence assessments for project sites, identifying potential environmental liabilities and developing remediation strategies.
Ø Reporting & Communication: Prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports and presentations on environmental matters for clients, senior management, and regulatory bodies.
Ø Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage environmental budgets for assigned projects, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost-effective solutions.
Ø Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of latest developments in environmental legislation, technology, and best practices, implementing improvements to enhance environmental performance.
Ø Mentorship & Training: Mentor and train junior environmental staff, fostering a culture of environmental awareness and expertise within the company.
Ø Develop and maintain clear communication channels with key stakeholders across all levels
Requirements
Ø Awareness of all aspects of data lifecycle including data ethics and applicable legislation / standards such as GDPR, BS, ISO etc.
Ø Have knowledge and awareness of various environmental disciplines but not limited to, such as noise, dust, vibration, CEEQUAL, BREEAM, carbon, energy efficiency , ecology, archaeology, arboriculture and agriculture.
Ø Experience of working in National Grid projects or other relevant energy infrastructure projects in the past.
