Job Description

Become part of a talented team doing impactful work

The energy sector is changing quickly, and we need consultants who can help our clients cope with these changes and create/implement plans that balance the goals of customers, regulators, and shareholders from both a business/regulatory and technical point of view.

Our successful Energy and Utilities practice is looking for skilled experts to help support our current client base and our ambitious growth strategy.

We are looking for consultants with a background in regulated utilities who can work in multi-skilled teams with experience of working with UK energy infrastructure. The ideal candidate would preferably be able to show an understanding of energy price controls and the RIIO framework, and how the management of the physical assets support customer, regulator and sector objectives.

We are looking to hire and develop people of all levels to meet our growing project demand, and who are willing to learn and grow further in a consulting setting. At the same time, we need people who can work independently and are driven self-starters who will impress our clients at this exciting time in the energy transition.

Whatwe’relooking for

As a part of the team, you will assist in creating and pursuing business opportunities for new and existing clients through your own and PA’s wide network of clients. We excel at bridging the gap between regulatory, engineering, digital and customer languages so you will add new insights to our diverse mix.

On the back of continued success, we are looking for talented people to join our growing asset management team. We work very closely with all our clients, build strong interpersonal relationships and pride ourselves on our ability to ‘walk the talk,’. Therefore, we are particularly interested in those who have practical ‘hands on’ experience with energy infrastructure assets and interest of:

  • Energy infrastructure planning (transmission and/or distribution) in a rapidly evolving landscape.
  • The operation of energy networks in delivering consumer, regulator and shareholder priorities.
  • The production of asset strategies, policies, plans and standards. Plus an understanding of how these influence/impact business outcomes.

At PA we believe that a brilliant asset manager is someone who is curious, enjoys exploring new ideas, and seeks to evolve asset management thinking and problem definition. We are looking to recruit and support curious asset management experts to develop across these areas, who are willing to learn and develop themselves in a consulting environment. To further enhance our projects pipeline we are looking for people to generate growth; business development is the key enabler for this, so previous experience of winning new work and developing opportunities is highly beneficial.

While successful candidates will have a good technical understanding of their field, deep specialism is not the only facet of PA consultants; we also want ingenious people who can turn highly technical detail into simple concepts and communicate this clearly to anyone from boardroom to factory floor. Our consultants should be able to adapt their style to work effectively with clients and inspire confidence. We’re looking for someone with these attributes:

  • Self-motivation and ability to manage their own workload effectively.
  • Creative and open minded, enjoying learning and trying new ways of doing things.
  • Strong communication, presentation creation, delivery and document writing skills.
  • A great team member in multi-discipline teams.

Flexible working - We are guided by our client work and needs; however, you have autonomy to manage your time and diary to suit your work/life balance.

Qualifications

You have a technical background or possess strong technical competencies in one or more of the following areas:

  • Electricity or gas network asset planning or operation (transmission and/or distribution).
  • The evolving energy landscape including National Energy System Operation (NESO), Distribution System Operation (DSO), Net Zero drivers and regulatory incentives.
  • Innovation in technology and/or process.
  • Asset strategy and linkages to holistic decision-making.
  • Programme delivery (high volume activities or major projects).
  • Asset health, utilisation, risk and resilience:
      • You are passionate about the opportunities and challenges in the energy sector. You are delivery oriented and at your best when, as part of a team with a high focus on results, you can help clients solve challenging strategic issues.
      • You have aproven ability to lead a portfolio of workstreams or small projects, ensuring compliance with relevant quality assurance and standards and supporting the development of less experienced staff.
  • You havestrong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi-disciplinary teams with other disciplines including data scientists, economists and engineers.
  • A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging market trends and technical solutions.

We would also expect you to have:

  • Strong leadership skills, demonstrating the capacity to lead substantial multidisciplinary and/or economic projects (or elements of).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Relationship building and influencing skills.

We know the skill-gap and ‘somewhat need to tick every box’ can get in the way of meeting brilliant candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply – we’d love to hear from you.
