The Team

As a progressive technology team, Farrers IT have delivered a number of industry firsts. We lead on cloud based systems and mobility, delivering projects and managing systems which allow our staff to work regardless of their location. Technology is key to our business, so proactive and forward thinking IT staff are essential elements in our success.

Scope

The purpose of this role is to work within our existing Data & BI team and together be responsible for the administration, development and optimisation of the firm’s data infrastructure. The firm is continuing to develop its use of business data and the methods used to present this to key clients and stakeholders across all areas of the business. The successful candidate will assist in strategically designing, developing, and implementing databases, data warehouses, data pipelines and business intelligence systems which allow us to maximise the value of the firm's data.

Responsibilities Maintain SQL Server databases to ensure reliable access and excellent performance. Responsibility for the integrity, security, backup, disaster recovery and availability of data systems. Maintain and develop existing BI solutions, a mixture of SSRS, Power BI, Power Apps and Power Automate. Work with all business areas to devise, develop, and deploy data products as needed. Oversee data integration across firm wide systems ensuring data quality and consistency. Document the data architecture and environment, in order to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture. Act as technical lead or a technical resource on project work as required. Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues. Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems. Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels and perform database security audits. Where appropriate, leverage Microsoft cloud services (Azure, Power platform, Fabric) for the delivery of data solutions. Skills and Experience

Technical Skills:

Strong SQL server experience including writing TSQL and performance tuning is essential. Experience building BI solutions and dashboards using reporting and visualisation tools such as Power BI or SSRS. ETL experience; experience with some of the following would be expected: Microsoft SSIS Microsoft Power Platform Microsoft Fabric Azure Data Factory Azure DevOps Notebooks and Spark / Python APIs.

Experience:

Previous legal experience would be ideal, especially knowledge of Aderant PMS and Intapp products, specifically Integration Builder or Intapp Integration Services. Ability to build relationships and focus on delivering excellent customer service. Proactive, hands-on approach. A self-starter who can take the initiative and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a fully integrated team. Innovative and flexible with a strong customer service ethic. Confident manner and personal impact to command the respect of peers and colleagues. Energy and enthusiasm to manage new initiatives.

Special aspects Standard office hours are 09.30 to 17.30 Monday to Friday, but it is essential that the applicant is committed, flexible and prepared to work beyond the normal office hours when necessary and in response to demand. On-site or remote evening and weekend working should be expected as part of the role to accommodate system maintenance and support where necessary. Farrer & Co operates an agile working framework under which members of the firm are expected to spend at least 40% of their working hours in the office. This is a minimum expectation: individuals may elect or be asked or expected to work more frequently in the office, depending on circumstance.
