We\'re looking for a Data Warehouse Solution Engineer to take ownership of evolving, maintaining, and supporting our newly established Azure data warehouse. In this hands-on role, you\'ll collaborate with the Applications Team, Finance, the Data Governance & Quality Manager, and the wider IT function to ensure our data remains accurate, timely, and trusted. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape how data is used across the business. You\'ll play a central role in extending our Azure data warehouse through new system integrations, enabling deeper insights that support smarter, faster decision-making at every level of the firm. The core foundation is in place—now we need someone to help operationalise and scale it, turning potential into business value.

Key Accountabilities
  • Working closely with colleagues in IT and other internal teams, notably Finance, build a roadmap of business use cases to ingest into the data warehouse to fuel reporting & dashboards.
  • Own, monitor, and evolve the current Azure Data warehouse, developing and implementing data engineering best-practice (e.g., source-to-target mappings, coding standards, data quality, etc.), working closely with the external party who setup the environment.
  • Create and maintain ETL processes, data mappings & transformations to orchestrate data integrations.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality, privacy, and security across systems, in line with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Optimize data solutions for performance and scalability. Explore new data management and processing techniques, making recommendations where appropriate.
  • Adhere to Interpath\'s software engineering best practices (e.g., technical design, review, unit testing, monitoring & alerting, source code management and review, and documentation).
  • Become a subject matter expert and point of contact on available data within the business. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and create data models accordingly.
Requirements
  • At least five years of experience in all aspects of the data engineering role, ideally as a senior or lead engineer.
  • Hands on experience of building and maintaining Python based Azure data bricks notebooks in Azure synapse analytics.
  • Strong SQL experience, including programming i.e., SQL queries and stored procedures, and formal database design methodologies.
  • Experience in setting up monitoring and data quality exception handling.
  • Strong data modelling experience.
  • Experience managing and developing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure products and services, and proficiency in ETL processes.
  • Experience of working with APIs to integrate data flows between disparate cloud systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • The aptitude to quickly understand information, business models and business requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to establish credibility and develop effective business relationships with colleagues.
Desirable Criteria
  • C# coding knowledge
  • Logic Apps and Azure Integration Services
  • Experience in semi / fully unstructured datasets and NoSQL environments
  • Awareness of working in a regulated environment, with experience of data legislation and cyber security accreditations e.g., GDPR, ISO27001, Cyber Essentials
  • Expertise in Business Intelligence, ideally via Power BI for data visualization and reporting
  • Use of DevOps (CI/CD) concepts to test, schedule, and deploy to a production environment
  • Experience of working in a financial services firm

Why Data Science Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Data science once meant advanced statistics, machine learning models and coding in Python or R. In the UK today, it has become one of the most in-demand professions across sectors — from healthcare to finance, retail to government. But as the field matures, employers now expect more than technical modelling skills. Modern data science is multidisciplinary. It requires not just coding and algorithms, but also legal knowledge, ethical reasoning, psychological insight, linguistic clarity and human-centred design. Data scientists are expected to interpret, communicate and apply data responsibly, with awareness of law, human behaviour and accessibility. In this article, we’ll explore why data science careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five disciplines intersect with data science, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to succeed in this transformed field.

Data Science Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Data Science Department

Data science is one of the most in-demand, dynamic, and multidisciplinary areas in the UK tech and business landscape. Organisations from finance, retail, health, government, and beyond are using data to drive decisions, automate processes, personalise services, predict trends, detect fraud, and more. To do that well, companies don’t just need good data scientists; they need teams with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, workflows, collaboration, and governance. If you're aiming for a role in data science or recruiting for one, understanding the structure of a data science department—and who does what—can make all the difference. This article breaks down the key roles, how they interact across the lifecycle of a data science project, what skills and qualifications are typical in the UK, expected salary ranges, challenges, trends, and how to build or grow an effective team.
