About Group Data:

At Policy Expert, data is at the heart of everything we do, and our ambition is clear: our data and analytics will enrich every customer experience, optimize every business decision, and empower every colleague. The Exec and Board have committed significant investment to establish and mature our data capabilities, underpinned by a transformative Data Strategy built around three core pillars: Operating Model, Data & Analytics Platform, and Data Culture. We have five disciplines – Data Management, Engineering, Science, Analytics, and Visualisation – that collaborate with the rest of the business to drive incremental value through data, operational excellence, and business agility.

About the Data Engineering team:

The Data Engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining our cloud-native secure, reliable, cost-efficient, and scalable Data & Analytics Platform. The team covers the end-to-end lifecycle of data, from ingestion, egress and integration of data to cleaning, enriching and modelling it into a unified enterprise data warehouse model, to supporting analytics, data science, and AI use cases.

Your day to day:

You will join the Data Warehousing sub-team, tasked with creating and maintaining our enterprise data model, structured across four layers: Bronze (raw data), Silver (cleaned and enriched data), Gold (dimensional/star schema models), and Semantic (domain-specific models). Our collaborative approach involves working closely with the Enterprise Data Architect, Data Governance Manager, and the wider Data Analytics team.

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the unified enterprise data model within our BigQuery-based data warehouse, covering the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Semantic layers.
  • Develop dimensional and semantic data models aligned with business domains to enable easy consumption of insights across Policy Expert's insurance products (Home, Motor, Pet). The data models need to satisfy users' needs, and their querying needs to be performant and cost-efficient.
  • Collaborate closely with the Enterprise Data Architect and Data Governance Manager to ensure the data model adheres to governance policies, privacy regulations, and best practices in data management.
  • Drive the adoption of robust data governance, data quality standards, and promote self-service analytics capabilities within the data warehouse.
  • Engage with business stakeholders to ensure data models accurately support their analytical and operational use cases.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on data warehousing and modelling techniques, mentoring and guiding team members and the wider Group Data team.

Who are you:

  • A seasoned Data Warehouse Architect with proven experience in designing, building, and maintaining performant, secure and cost-efficient enterprise-scale cloud data warehouses (ideally on Google Cloud).
  • Expert knowledge in dimensional modelling (Kimball methodology), star schema design, semantic modelling, and implementing data mesh principles.
  • Expert SQL knowledge, and proficiency with ELT and lakehouse architectures.
  • Experienced in managing data quality, governance, security, and compliance frameworks in regulated industries (GDPR, Consumer Duty, PECR).
  • Skilled in collaborating across technical and non-technical teams to understand business requirements and translating them into robust data models.
  • Proficient with transformation frameworks (e.g. DBT, Dataform, SQLMesh), tools and processes such as SQL, CI/CD automation (e.g. GitHub Actions), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and data observability practices.
  • Adept at balancing strategic oversight with hands-on implementation, committed to delivering scalable, performant, and reliable data solutions.
  • An effective communicator with strong leadership skills, capable of mentoring and developing a high-performing data engineering team.

Benefits:

This role will be based in our London office in a 50/50 Hybrid mode.

Data Science Job Interview Warm‑Up: 30 Real Coding & System‑Design Questions

Data science has become one of the most sought‑after fields in technology, leveraging mathematics, statistics, machine learning, and programming to derive valuable insights from data. Organisations across every sector—finance, healthcare, retail, government—rely on data scientists to build predictive models, understand patterns, and shape strategy with data‑driven decisions. If you’re gearing up for a data science interview, expect a well‑rounded evaluation. Beyond statistics and algorithms, many roles also require data wrangling, visualisation, software engineering, and communication skills. Interviewers want to see if you can slice and dice messy datasets, design experiments, and scale ML models to production. In this guide, we’ll explore 30 real coding & system‑design questions commonly posed in data science interviews. You’ll find challenges ranging from algorithmic coding and statistical puzzle‑solving to the architectural side of building data science platforms in real‑world settings. By practising with these questions, you’ll gain the confidence and clarity needed to stand out among competitive candidates. And if you’re actively seeking data science opportunities in the UK, be sure to visit www.datascience-jobs.co.uk. It’s a comprehensive hub featuring junior, mid‑level, and senior data science vacancies—spanning start‑ups to FTSE 100 companies. Let’s dive into what you need to know.

Negotiating Your Data Science Job Offer: Equity, Bonuses & Perks Explained

Data science has rapidly evolved from a niche specialty to a cornerstone of strategic decision-making in virtually every industry—from finance and healthcare to retail, entertainment, and AI research. As a mid‑senior data scientist, you’re not just running predictive models or generating dashboards; you’re shaping business strategy, product innovation, and customer experiences. This level of influence is why employers are increasingly offering compensation packages that go beyond a baseline salary. Yet, many professionals still tend to focus almost exclusively on base pay when negotiating a new role. This can be a costly oversight. Companies vying for data science talent—especially in the UK, where demand often outstrips supply—routinely offer equity, bonuses, flexible work options, and professional development funds in addition to salary. Recognising these opportunities and effectively negotiating them can have a substantial impact on your total earnings and long-term career satisfaction. This guide explores every facet of negotiating a data science job offer—from understanding equity structures and bonus schemes to weighing crucial perks like remote work and ongoing skill development. By the end, you’ll be well-equipped to secure a holistic package aligned with your market value, your life goals, and the tremendous impact you bring to any organisation.
