Role Overview
As a Data Scientist within Davies UK & I IT, you will be responsible for extracting meaningful insights from complex datasets to support strategic decision-making. You will leverage advanced analytics, machine learning techniques, Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI and Python programming to build scalable data-driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement machine learning models, including LLMs, to optimize insurance services and automation. Apply advanced Python techniques to manipulate and analyse large datasets.
Design and maintain data pipelines to ensure the integrity and accessibility of critical business data.

  • Provide actionable insights through predictive analytics and statistical modelling.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data science initiatives with business objectives.
  • Communicate complex data findings in a clear, concise manner to stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with emerging AI trends and their applications in the insurance industry.
  • Recommend statistical/machine learning tools and technologies to prototype new concepts.
  • Retrieval and collection of open and closed data sources, including data processing, cleansing and verification.
  • Where applicable, work with developers to integrate specialist third party applications.
    Be the subject matter expert for machine learning techniques, aiding the development of solutions for real world problems.
    Mentor and coach less experienced colleagues.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
•Strong proficiency in Python, including libraries like Pandas, NumPy, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.

  • Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs) and their practical applications.
  • Expertise in data insights, analytics, and predictive modelling.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with insurance data, risk analysis, or financial services analytics (preferred but not essential).
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of statistics and experience of applying quantitative skills and analytical methods, such as classifiers, regression and decision trees.
  • Experience of programming, such as with C#.
  • Solid understanding of ETL processes and T-SQL.
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics or equivalent quantitative discipline.
  • Good coding practices in general, familiarity with testing, clean code writing, reading others code.
  • General technical mindset, work outside Python such as setting up your own working environment, sometimes do infrastructure work, troubleshoot.
