We are looking for a Data Scientist in London, reporting to the Head of Data Science.

The role

We seek a talented Data Scientist to leverage machine learning and AI, enabling impactful innovations at scale. You will work in a cross-functional team to identify business opportunities, design and implement machine learning and AI models, and develop innovative solutions. You will also play a pivotal role in developing models that go beyond traditional techniques, collaborating closely with product, design, engineering, and data teams to explore and apply ML and AI techniques.

The Data & Analytics Team has grown significantly over the past 18 months, investing in data and data science capabilities to deliver effective solutions in a dynamic industry.

Typical weekly tasks include:

  1. Designing and implementing machine learning and AI models for tasks such as prediction, classification, recommendation systems, image synthesis, and text generation.
  2. Analyzing complex datasets to provide insights.
  3. Engaging with stakeholders on business problems and potential ML or AI solutions.
  4. Collaborating with domain experts to engineer meaningful features.
  5. Working with ML and Data Engineers to prepare datasets.
  6. Designing experiments, monitoring metrics, and understanding changes.
  7. Monitoring deployed solutions.
  8. Sharing progress and challenges with team members and stakeholders.
  9. Contributing to strategic technology decisions.
  10. Sharing knowledge within the Rightmove data and AI community.

Candidate requirements:

  • Experience in developing and deploying machine learning models, including large language models and generative AI frameworks is a plus.
  • Ability to support organizational capabilities in ML and AI.
  • Skill in tackling loosely defined problems with ML solutions.
  • Effective communication of findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to challenge ideas constructively and propose solutions.
  • Keeping up-to-date with latest advancements in data science and AI.

Preferred additional skills include:

  • Formal experience as a data scientist in production environments.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, ML packages (XGBoost, LightGBM), and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras).
  • Experience with generative AI and large language models (OpenAI, Hugging Face, etc.)
  • Understanding of software development paradigms, tools (Git), and cloud platforms (GCP, BigQuery, Vertex AI).
  • Data visualization skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Educational background in a quantitative field (Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or related).
