Role Overview:

IWSR is expanding its Forecasting, Analytics and Modelling capabilities and seeks a Data Scientist as part of its growing team of data scientists and econometricians. This team is responsible for the production of forecasts and analyticsin collaboration with IWSR’s research team. The candidate will also contribute to IWSR’s consultancy projects which typically involve bespoke forecasts, analytics and custom model development to support our clients business planning.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of data science, driving innovation and excellence in forecasting, analytics, and modelling.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Elevate Forecasts, Analytics, and Models

  • Ensure IWSR’s forecasts, analytics, and models are market-leading in quality, relevance, and reliability
  • Approach forecasting, analytics, and modelling challenges with rigor, adaptability, and creativity.

2.Data Analysis and Exploration

  • Support the collection, cleansing, and analysis of data from diverse sources
  • Identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights to drive decision-making and solve complex business problems.

3. Statistical & Mathematical Modelling and Machine Learning/AI

  • Support the development ofpredictive models, to forecast trends and outcomes
  • Support the development and implementation of machine learning algorithms to address specific business challenges
  • Collaborate with the team to deploy, run, and maintain models in a production environment
  • Evaluate and fine-tune model performance for optimal results.

4. Communication

  • Create compelling narratives, data visualisations, reports, and dashboards to effectively communicate insights
  • Translate complex data findings into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

5. Data Requirements

  • Work with internal and customer teams to define precise data requirements
  • Ensure data collection and modelling approaches align with key business objectives and analytical use cases.

6. Data Capture

  • Perform data wrangling and data mining to prepare high-quality datasets for advanced modelling and analysis
  • Proactively identify and resolve data capture issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement long-term solutions.

Skills & Experience:

1. Experience

  • Over 3 years-experience in delivering Data Science projects using Python programming language, statistical and machine learning techniques, time series analysis and data visualisation and insight analysis.

2. Qualifications

  • A Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, a related field or relevant professional experience

3. Analytical skills

  • Analytical skills using software packages Python, SQL along with Excel
  • A passion for innovation and problem-solving, with the ability to think creatively and critically to address challenges and seize opportunities
  • Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS/ Azure is beneficial but not essential.

4. Sector knowledge

  • Ideally experience and knowledge of the FMCG sector or from a Market Research Background.

5.Communication

  • Effective communication skills to both engage with stakeholders to agree requirements and convey findings from analysis to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
