About Skyscanner

Everyone loves travelling, but planning is not without its challenges. That's why we've spent 20 years building tools that turn travel-planning chaos into a breeze. Today, around 100 million travellers count on us every month to skip the whole "47 browser tabs open" phase and find flights, cars, and hotels quickly and easily.

Joining Skyscanner means becoming part of a global brand that's striving to become the planet's go-to travel hack accessible for all.

Our vision? To be the world's number one travel ally. (Ambitious? Yes, but, hey, that's what got us here).

Now, we're on the lookout for a Data Scientist to help us build smarter, faster, more personalised travel experiences - and get them into the hands of millions!

About the role

Hybrid

From building machine learning models that guide travellers to the right deal, to scaling data products that power every part of our platform - this is real-world data science that gets results.

You'll work end-to-end on high-impact projects: scoping problems, exploring data, developing models, evaluating outcomes, and partnering with engineers to bring solutions to life in production. All with a test-and-learn approach and a constant focus on traveller value.

What you'll be doing
  • Creating intelligent data products that drive personalisation and performance across flights, hotels and car hire
  • Building and deploying machine learning models that make travel experiences faster, smarter, and more relevant
  • Running experiments that are statistically sound and commercially useful - from bidding models to UX enhancements
  • Collaborating with product, marketing and engineering teams to solve complex problems and uncover new opportunities
  • Scaling impact through monitoring, model evaluation and lifecycle management in production environments
  • Always learning - exploring new methods, tools and ideas to sharpen your craft
About you
  • Impact-driven: You've contributed to data science projects that made a real impact on live, customer-facing products - not just in theory, but in production.
  • Technically strong: Proficient in Python and SQL, with bonus points for Spark and Airflow
  • Machine learning fluent: You know which model fits which problem and how to make it work in production
  • Product-aware: You're interested in how your work shapes real experiences, not just metrics
  • Collaborative by nature: You bring ideas to life with teammates from across the business
  • Tools-aware: Familiarity with CatBoost, XGBoost, or TensorFlow? Even better
  • Curious and pragmatic: You care about data quality, impact and system interactions - not just models
  • Clear communicator: Comfortable explaining your thinking to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Sustainability and accessibility focused: You think in systems and solutions, always aiming for simplicity, inclusivity and long- term value.
What it's like here

We are the real deal - no corporate gloss, no empty promises. Just a team of genuinely curious, caring humans, building things that help travellers explore the world a little easier.

Skyscanner is made up of brilliant humans from every corner of the world. We believe travel makes the world better - and that the same is true of our diverse teams. We're proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive and products that are accessible to all.

Sound like your kind of adventure? Apply now and help us shape the future of travel.

We're committed to ensuring our application and recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible to everyone. If you require any reasonable adjustments or accommodations for interviews, please let us know. If you'd like more information on any of our policies, such as hybrid working or Parental Leave policies (typically we pay a minimum of 24 weeks birth parent/maternity leave globally), our recruitment team can provide more information on these.

Data Science Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Data Science Department

Data science is one of the most in-demand, dynamic, and multidisciplinary areas in the UK tech and business landscape. Organisations from finance, retail, health, government, and beyond are using data to drive decisions, automate processes, personalise services, predict trends, detect fraud, and more. To do that well, companies don’t just need good data scientists; they need teams with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, workflows, collaboration, and governance. If you're aiming for a role in data science or recruiting for one, understanding the structure of a data science department—and who does what—can make all the difference. This article breaks down the key roles, how they interact across the lifecycle of a data science project, what skills and qualifications are typical in the UK, expected salary ranges, challenges, trends, and how to build or grow an effective team.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next Data Science Jobs Hub

Data science is arguably the most transformative technological field of the 21st century. From powering artificial intelligence algorithms to enabling complex business decisions, data science is essential across sectors. As organisations leverage data more rapidly—from retailers predicting customer behaviour to health providers diagnosing conditions—demand for proficiency in data science continues to surge. The United Kingdom is particularly well-positioned to become a global data science jobs hub. With world-class universities, a strong tech sector, growing AI infrastructure, and supportive policy environments, the UK is poised for growth. This article delves into why the UK could emerge as a leading destination for data science careers, explores the job market’s current state, outlines future opportunities, highlights challenges, and charts what must happen to realise this vision.
