Data Governance Ownership Lead
Location: Remote (UK)
Permanent
RS Group is looking for a passionate and strategic Data Governance Ownership Lead to join our team on a permanent basis. As part of our ambitious three-year transformation programme, we’re building a solid data foundation, enhancing operational efficiency, and unlocking value through data-led initiatives. At the core of this transformation is Data Ownership—one of our top strategic priorities.
This is a high-impact role at the heart of the Group Data team, where you'll lead the charge in embedding a culture of data ownership, accountability, and governance across our global organisation. You'll collaborate closely with Domain Data Owners, Business System Owners, and cross-functional partners to design and implement a robust Data Ownership Framework.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design and roll out a robust Data Ownership Framework, including playbooks, governance roles, best practices, and adoption plans.

Coordinate the rollout of data ownership across domains such as Customer, Product, Finance, and Supplier, working directly with Data Owners and Stewards.
For systems or areas without formal domains, work with Business System Owners to ensure 100% coverage of ownership across the organisation.
Define and maintain governance processes and standards for Data Ownership in alignment with wider data, compliance, and risk policies.
Lead Data Ownership forums to track implementation progress, resolve challenges, and drive accountability.
Maintain a central inventory of data assets requiring governance oversight and implement onboarding and evaluation standards for new data sets.
Build and deliver a phased roadmap that embeds data governance sustainably across teams and systems.
Align Data Ownership initiatives with strategic business programmes such as Business Process Harmonisation and key transformation projects.
Deliver training and awareness programmes to increase stakeholder understanding and engagement.
Lead and contribute to GDPR and DPA 2018 compliance efforts across RS Group.
Consult on Information Security and Legal standards, ensuring our data policies are user-centric and operationally achievable.

About You
RS is looking for a visionary and hands-on Data Governance leader—someone who can define and roll out scalable frameworks, engage business and IT stakeholders, and ensure our data is consistently discoverable, trustworthy, and well-managed. You’ll help us turn good data into great outcomes, delivering long-term value and measurable business impact.

What We’re Looking For

Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality principles, and governance operating models.

Experience leading governance initiatives in complex, global organisations.
Hands-on experience working with GDPR and data privacy compliance, especially Article 30, RTBF, and DSAR.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across business and technical teams.
Ability to lead governance forums, influence outcomes, and embed ownership principles across functions.
Organised, proactive, and pragmatic—able to prioritise effectively in fast-moving environments.
A true collaborator who can break down silos and build shared understanding across functions.

Desirable Skills

Background in enterprise data management, metadata management, or master data management (MDM).

Understanding of data modelling, data architecture, or data analysis.
Experience in project or programme management, particularly within transformation programmes.

How Many Data Science Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Data Science Job?

If you’re trying to break into data science — or progress your career — it can feel like you are drowning in names: Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, SQL, Spark, AWS, Scikit-learn, Jupyter, Tableau, Power BI…the list just keeps going. With every job advert listing a different combination of tools, many applicants fall into a trap: they try to learn everything. The result? Long tool lists that sound impressive — but little depth to back them up. Here’s the straight-talk version most hiring managers won’t explicitly tell you: 👉 You don’t need to know every data science tool to get hired. 👉 You need to know the right ones — deeply — and know how to use them to solve real problems. Tools matter, but only in service of outcomes. So how many data science tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the answer is not “27” — it’s more like 8–12, thoughtfully chosen and well understood. This guide explains what employers really value, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to focus your toolbox so your CV and interviews shine.

This guide helps you understand exactly what hiring managers look for first in data science applications — and how to structure your CV, portfolio and cover letter so you leap to the top of the shortlist.
