About your role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Governance Manager to lead and manage the data governance team, ensuring the development and implementation of data governance policies and practices that maintain data quality, integrity, and security across BGB. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing Data Governance practices to comply with Centrica Group Data standards and GDPR regulations. You will support all BGB Business Units and Data Owners and build strong relationships with Data Stewards to implement Data Governance initiatives.

Key aspects of this role are:

  • Policy Development:Develop and implement data governance policies, and data classification and handling standards to comply with Centrica Data Policies and GDPR regulations.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate data governance related risks, ensuring data governance practices support BGB’s risk management framework, and avoiding potential GDPR related fines (up to 4% annual turnover)
  • Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Data Governance Analysts
  • Data Stewardship Coordination: Interlock with distributed BU Data Stewards to promote data governance best practices and ensure alignment with Data Governance standards
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure compliance with data governance policies and regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR)
  • Data Stewardship:Promote a data stewardship culture and best practices across BGB to drive high quality data driven decision making.
  • Utilise Technology: Leverage technology to support policy implementation and compliance monitoring
  • Collaboration:Work with senior business stakeholders and distributed BU Data Stewards to support data governance initiatives, and document data processes, workflows, and data lineage. Work with BGB Data Engineering, Insight & Analytics, and Data Science teams to integrate data governance practices into their solutions
  • Training and Awareness:Act as the Data Governance subject matter expert to assist in developing and delivering training programs to enhance data governance awareness and skills
  • Performance Monitoring: Establish and monitor KPIs to measure the effectiveness of data governance initiatives

Here's what we’re looking for:

  • Strong experience in a Data Governance or related field
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance frameworks and best practices
  • Good knowledge of Data Governance tools and technologies
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements related to Data Governance (e.g., GDPR)
  • Experience working in data communities and technical environments
  • Proven experience in delivering Data Governance frameworks and driving cultural change towards Data Governance
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data management, and data quality
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and data stewardship
  • Experience in Data Mapping and Data Management
  • Design Data Governance frameworks to support Data Governance adherence and avoid potential GDPR fines, which can be up to 4% of BGB’s annual turnover.
