Job Description

The Scottish Qualifications Authority is Scotland’s national awarding and accreditation body. We are trusted to oversee thousands of qualifications that are available in schools, colleges and workplaces, not just in this country, but around the world.


SQA are looking for a Data Governance Analyst to work within the Data Governance team.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the support and execution of a data quality management process across SQA. In order to do this you will be a problem solver who can identify solutions that may be outside the box and can communicate these solutions to colleagues at all levels.


To be able to be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Manage data issue investigations, engaging with a range of teams to analyse root cause, agree improvement plans, monitor and report in order to improve data quality across the organisation


Ability to research and gain in-depth understanding of data quality activities and best practice.
Identify appropriate data analysis methods to ensure data issues are investigated fully in order to profile, document and understand core data, relationships and data flows
Ensure processes and standards are in place to identify, analyse, control, improve, monitor and report on data quality issues
Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues to ensure a high level of data quality awareness
 Experience of using SQL, Power BI and advanced Excel.

Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Good problem-solving skills including research, root cause analysis, error correction, analytical and decision-making Knowledge of data quality and metadata tools, methodologies and process.


Proven experience in gathering data, preparing high quality analysis and demonstrating solutions to colleagues
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of media and audiences
Ability to translate technical content into easy to understand business language
Strong data skills, including advanced Excel proficiency, foundational SQL knowledge, and experience with query builder tools such as Power BI

Applicants ideally should be educated to SCQF Level 8 (HND or SVQ4) and/or be able to demonstrate direct relevant experience for this role.
