Are you ready to shape the future of data in a fast-paced, high-impact domain? We’re looking for a Data Engineering Manager to lead our data engineering capabilities within the Commercial & Supply domain. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the technical delivery of high-quality data products, leading agile engineering squads consisting of data & visualisation engineers, while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

You’ll be at the forefront of shaping scalable, reliable data solutions that meet Asda business needs and follow our data strategy, governance principals and security standards. Your combined skills in people management, Agile facilitation, and technical oversight will ensure your squad consistently delivers impactful outcomes aligned with strategic objectives.

Your Role

Lead and manage a cross-functional Agile squad including data engineers and visualisation engineers, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and a strong delivery mindset. Manage the end-to-end delivery of data engineering solutions, from data pipelines and infrastructure through to data visualisation through Power BI ensuring work is completed on time, within scope, and is scalable, secure, and reliable. Work alongside the Product Manager to understand business priorities, backlogs and advise on technical solutions. Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement to ensure smooth and effective delivery. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, supporting their professional growth and strengthening squad capabilities. Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance policies throughout the development lifecycle. Drive continuous value delivery by aligning engineering output with business goals, KPIs, and outcomes. Champion best practices in Agile delivery, data governance, and engineering excellence. Monitor and drive squad performance, using metrics and feedback to continuously improve velocity, quality, and team morale. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and high performance across your team and the wider data community. Act as a technical translator, bridging the gap between engineering and the wider business to ensure solutions are well understood and adopted.

About You

Experience in an engineering management role within the data domain. Strong background in Agile delivery, with a deep understanding of principles, practices, and delivery frameworks. Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms and modern data architectures (e.g. data lakes, data warehousing, ETL pipelines). Knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Power BI and the wider Power Platform Proficient knowledge of data processing platforms, such as Databricks. Experience with Azure based solutions such as Azure Data Factory, Extensive experience with languages such as SQL and preferably Python & PySpark. Version control and best practices using Github Strong commercial awareness - able to understand business processes and ensure technical solutions solve real-world problems. Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders. Experience mentoring and developing teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Passionate about innovation - staying ahead of industry trends and adopting best-in-class solutions. Results-driven, with a focus on performance, delivery, and creating measurable business impact. Proven ability to collaborate across functions, building strong relationships with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams.
