Position Description:

The Space, Defence and Intelligence business unit in CGI is a true IT Systems Integrator. We work, build, and operate bespoke, technically complex, mission-critical systems which help our clients keep us all safe and secure. We're seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and lead the implementation of data flows between operational systems and BI/analytics platforms.
Our Data Services team manages the ingestion, storage, and availability of diverse datasets, enabling analysts and data scientists to generate insights that support operational and tactical decisions.

We're expanding our team of Data Engineers to ingest new datasets and maintain existing ones ensuring data is well-formatted, complete, high-quality, and accessible for analysis.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Lead the design and implementation of robust data flows, connecting operational systems with business intelligence platforms. As part of the Data Services team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring datasets are high-quality, discoverable, and accessible, empowering analysts and data scientists to generate actionable insights.
Your focus will be on bringing in new datasets, maintaining existing ones, and ensuring data consistency, usability, and availability across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
• Ingest and integrate new datasets based on operational needs
• Ensure datasets are clean, complete, well-formatted, and analytics-ready
• Investigate and resolve data defects or discrepancies
• Maintain the dataset catalogue and data dictionary for discoverability
• Support continuous improvement of dataset quality, usability, and coherence

Data Analysis & Engineering
• Profile data sources and present clear insights
• Design, build, and test scalable, complex data solutions
• Improve raw data through conformed dataset design

Innovation & Integration
• Understand trends in data tools and analytics
• Select and implement resilient, scalable technologies

Systems & Data Design
• Create and refine system and data models aligned to stakeholder needs
• Apply modelling standards and design methods across data domains

Metadata & Data Management
• Ensure metadata quality and consistency
• Implement master data management and integrity processes

Problem Solving & Development
• Monitor and resolve data-related issues
• Design and maintain programs/scripts to support data engineering pipelines
• Conduct and automate testing to ensure robust data workflows

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and ETL processes
• Strong proficiency in data modelling, integration design, and working with large, complex datasets
• Ability to profile data, resolve data quality issues, and manage metadata/catalogues effectively
• Skilled in communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Proficient in programming (e.g. Python, SQL) and using modern data engineering tools and platforms (e.g. cloud services, data warehouses, orchestration tools)
