24 month fixed term contract. Role located in Bristol or London, on a hybrid basis as needed in the office. As a Data Engineer, you enable us to harness the power of data for decision‑making and improve operational efficiency. This position focuses on designing, constructing, and maintaining scalable and robust data infrastructure, ensuring the seamless flow, transformation, and availability of data across the business. The ideal candidate is passionate about solving data challenges, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is dedicated to building systems that empower analytics, data science, and business intelligence teams.

Responsibilities
  • Data Pipeline Design & Development: Architect, implement, and optimise reliable, scalable, and efficient data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform large volumes of data from diverse sources.
  • Database Management: Design, manage, and optimise relational and non-relational databases. Ensure high availability, performance, and security for critical business data.
  • ETL Processes: Develop robust Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to prepare and structure data for analytics and machine learning applications.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Implement data validation, cleansing, and auditing procedures to assure data accuracy and consistency throughout the lifecycle.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver technical solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Cloud Technologies: Leverage modern cloud platforms (Azure, GCP) and their orchestration tools (Data Factory, Airflow) to support scalable data solutions.
  • Performance Optimisation: Profile, monitor, and tune data systems to ensure optimal throughput, responsiveness, and resource utilisation.
  • Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data architecture, data flows, and technical standards. Champion best practices in data engineering across the organisation.
  • Security & Compliance: Adhere to regulatory requirements and industry standards for data privacy, protection, and compliance (e.g., GDPR).
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to continuously improve data infrastructure, processes, and skillsets.
Qualifications
  • Relevant Bachelor's degree (minimum 2:1) in a STEM field
  • 2+ years' experience in a data-focused role is ideal but not essential; recent graduates will be considered
  • Experience in SQL and/or NoSQL databases
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, warehousing, and normalisation techniques
  • Hands-on experience with data pipeline tools and frameworks (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Airflow)
  • Desirable: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala
  • Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery)
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Certifications in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Professional Data Engineer)
  • Experience with real-time data streaming platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis)
  • Knowledge of data security protocols and encryption standards
  • Experience in machine learning model deployment and MLOps practices
