Lead Data Engineer - Enterprise Data Warehouse (Fully Remote)
VANRATH is proud to be working with a global leader in the payments industry to recruit a Lead Data Engineer for a fully remote, permanent role. This is a unique opportunity to design and build a centralised enterprise data warehouse, creating a single source of truth that will drive business-critical insights and enable strategic decision-making across the organisation.
This is an ideal role for someone passionate about building data platforms from the ground up - with full autonomy to architect, implement, and evolve solutions that will shape the future of data within a dynamic, fast-paced business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop a comprehensive, cloud-based enterprise data warehouse using industry best practices (Kimball, Data Vault, Data Mesh methodologies)
- Lead data modeling efforts to develop dimensional models (facts, dimensions) supporting analytics and reporting
- Build, optimise, and maintain robust and automated ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and expose data from multiple sources
- Implement integrations between on-premises and cloud services to enable seamless data flows
- Design and manage data lifecycle processes, from ingestion and storage to retention and deletion
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Business Analysis, Engineering) to gather requirements and deliver solutions
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and performance across platforms through testing and monitoring
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation for processes, pipelines, and data flows
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders in adopting and utilising the data platform
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and best practices within the data engineering function
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with advanced SQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, etc.)
- 3+ years of experience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell)
- 3+ years of experience interacting with APIs (SOAP, REST)
- 2+ years of experience using DBT (Data Build Tool)
- 3+ years of experience in data modeling
- Working knowledge of Snowflake or similar cloud analytics platforms
- Experience with version control and CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins)
- Familiarity with Agile development environments
- Strong consultative, communication, and collaboration skills
- Proven ability to take ownership of complex solutions and deliver results end-to-end
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a proactive mindset
