The Role Our client is on the lookout for a skilled Database Engineer to fortify their Platform team. This role is central to the development and optimization of our clients platforms underlying data architecture, crucial for handling data ingested from numerous on-premises devices and supporting a cloud-based platform's multi-tenancy capabilities. Please note, commercial experience of Databricks and Snowflake would be a distinct advantage. Responsibilities: - Design and deploy cloud-based database solutions using AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud technologies. - Collaborate with development teams to seamlessly integrate database services, ensuring data consistency and integrity across the platform. - Optimize data models and structures for efficient access and storage, following guidance from senior team members. - Assist in developing and implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for data durability. - Contribute to performance tuning, identifying and suggesting improvements within their expertise. - Enforce database security practices, including encryption and access control measures. - Contribute to project requirements by designing databases that align with cross-functional team needs. - Uphold best practices in database management, including documentation, version control, and active participation in code reviews and continuous improvement. - Monitor database performance using observability tools, aiding in issue identification and resolution. - Stay updated on the latest database technology trends, actively participating in discussions on potential integration into the company's tech stack. Ideal Candidate: - Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. - Minimum of 7 years of proven experience in cloud-based database engineering. - Proficiency in designing, implementing, and managing databases on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. - Strong understanding of data modelling principles, with expertise in both SQL and NoSQL technologies. - Experience in database performance tuning, query optimization, and familiarity with indexing and data normalisation. - Knowledge of database security best practices, including encryption, access control, and data protection mechanisms. - Familiarity with cloud-based backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies. - Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, translating requirements into effective database solutions. - Commitment to operational excellence, evidenced by a history of maintaining highly available and reliable database systems. - Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
