12 to 24 month FTC

£55,000 - £65,000

Edinburgh / Glasgow – hybrid (Two days in the office per week)


Head Resourcing is pleased to be working with our financial services client as they look to recruit a talented Data Engineer on a 12-24 month fixed term contract. Our client provides a range of outsourced investment services to private banks, advisory businesses, and wealth managers and have offices in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

In this role you will work with colleagues from across the IT department and the business operational teams to design and implement management solutions to meet the business and delivery goals.


Responsibilities:

  • Design & development of solutions that meet the needs of the business and are consistent with the overall technology strategy and agreed standards, methodologies & procedures within IT.
  • Document all work in accordance with the agreed standards, methodologies & procedures.
  • Ensures adherence to standards through training and education.
  • Involved in the peer review process and ensures that the process is followed and adhered to. Suggests improvements to the process, identifying new areas requiring peer review.
  • Takes responsibility to follow the configuration management process as laid out in the procedures using source control. Implements software configuration management procedures to ensure successful implementation and promotion of code.
  • Participates in project work as required, delivering tasks to agreed deadlines. Identifies and delivers operational enhancements as required.
  • Works with the Development Team Leader to plan / schedule work, regularly reporting progress and issues.
  • Is involved in testing strategies, including planning, design and management of simple & complex component and system testing scripts. Document test failures & successes compared with pre-defined criteria, in accordance with agreed standards.
  • Considers the full data lifecycle when delivering projects. Works with the data team to ensure that data principles & data strategy are considered when analysing data. Ensures all supporting processes and documentation are produced and maintained.

Key Skills:

Essential

  • Strong experience in Microsoft SQL Server, including: Designing, creating and maintain database objects such as tables, views, stories procedures, and functions; Writing complex queries for data extraction, analysis, and reporting; Ensuring data integrity, consistency, and performance across large-scale databases.
  • Strong experience in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).


Desirable

  • Data warehousing experience
  • Azure DevOps
  • Experience working with Visual Studio – C# programming
  • Power BI or similar visualisation tools
