This role requires on-site presence at Asda House in Leeds for at least three days per week. We’re really looking forward to having you around!

Are you passionate about turning data into powerful insights and scalable solutions? We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our dynamic Data Team and help shape the future of data at Asda.

In this hands-on role, you’ll be a key player within one of our Agile data squads, working side-by-side with Product Managers, Visualisation Engineers, Data Analysts, and Data Architects. Together, you’ll design and deliver high-quality, reliable data products that fuel strategic decisions and drive real business impact.

But this isn’t just about pipelines and platforms, it’s about people and progress. You’ll actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, championing engineering excellence and sharing knowledge within our Agile Community of Practice.

Your Role

Design, build, and optimise robust data pipelines using PySpark, SparkSQL, and Databricks to ingest, transform, and enrich data from a variety of sources. Translate business requirements into scalable and performant data engineering solutions, working closely with squad members and stakeholders. Handle data in multiple formats (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured) and manage data at various latencies – from batch processing to real-time streaming. Collaborate cross-functionally across the business to enable self-service analytics and innovation through well-organised and accessible data assets. Ensure engineering solutions comply with architectural frameworks and best practices defined by Data Architects. Actively contribute to our Agile ways of working, participating in ceremonies, retrospectives, and fostering a strong sense of team ownership and continuous delivery. Contribute to the Agile Community, ensuring standards, practices and principles are built into everything you do.

About You

Experience building and maintaining data solutions. Experience with languages such as Python, SQL and, preferably, PySpark. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, and a good understanding of cloud-based data architectures (e.g., data lakes, data vaults, data warehouses). Experience in working with Agile frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean. Experience with distributed data processing platforms such as Databricks. Understanding of data modelling and architectures (e.g. data vaults, data warehousing, data lakes etc.) Version control and best practices using Github. Strong communication and collaboration s kills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
