Job Description

Overview

We’re seeking a highly experienced Data Architect to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data architecture initiatives. You will define data strategy, shape the roadmap, and enable the delivery and consumption of scalable data products, all while advising senior stakeholders and guiding the transition to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.

This is a key role in driving a modern data ecosystem for a large organisation undergoing digital and cloud transformation. Experience in migrating from legacy data warehouses to cloud-native architectures will be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the enterprise data strategy and architecture roadmap, aligning it with business priorities and digital transformation goals.
  • Architect and oversee the implementation of data platforms and products using GCP services (e.g., BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage).
  • Guide the migration of legacy data warehouses to GCP, ensuring minimal disruption and future scalability.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders across business and technology functions to translate needs into actionable data architecture solutions.
  • Ensure robust data governance, security, and compliance standards across all data initiatives.
  • Lead design discussions, architecture reviews, and provide best practice guidance to engineering and analytics teams.
  • Drive adoption of data-as-a-product principles to enable self-service analytics and business intelligence across the organisation.

    Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in defining and delivering enterprise-scale data strategy and architecture in complex organisations.
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data services, including BigQuery, Cloud Composer, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage.
  • Strong experience migrating from legacy data warehouses (e.g., Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server) to cloud-native solutions.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to senior business stakeholders, influencing decision-making and strategic direction.
  • Deep knowledge of data modelling, data integration, metadata management, and governance frameworks.
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams in large enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with modern data stack tools and practices (e.g., dbt, Airflow, CI/CD, Terraform) is a plus.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • GCP certification (e.g., Professional Data Engineer or Cloud Architect)
  • Background in consulting, enterprise IT transformation, or platform modernisation projects
  • Experience with data product frameworks and federated data governance (e.g., Data Mesh)
