About the role

The Data Platform team builds and maintains a self-serve data platform for our international divisions. We operate with a business domain-oriented approach to organising data engineering and data products. Data domains cover Retail, Pharmacy, Healthcare, Marketing, Product, Merchandising and Opticians.


As a Data Architect, you will report to the Lead Data Architect and collaborate with data modellers, business data analysts, solution architects, data engineers and product owners/managers to design and govern data products in our domains. You will lead conceptual, logical and physical data modelling for projects and review data trackers and data mapping outputs to ensure alignment with data team standards and project scope. You will influence the Data Platform Data Architecture strategy and contribute to continuous improvement of Data Architecture processes.


Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual, logical and physical data modelling for projects.
  • Review data trackers and data mapping outputs to ensure alignment with data team standards and project scope.
  • Influence the Data Platform Data Architecture strategy and contribute to continuous improvement of data architecture processes.
  • Collaborate with data modellers, business data analysts, solution architects, data engineers and product owners/managers to design and govern data products across domains.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of Business Intelligence/Management Information or ML and AI solutions.
  • Excellent conceptual, logical and physical data modelling, data lineage/data flow mapping and data quality.
  • Understanding of data warehousing techniques such as Kimball dimensional modelling.
  • Experience with Metadata Management.
  • Experience influencing partners to adopt new data governance and management strategies.
  • Experience defining best practices and providing technical leadership in data governance.
  • In-depth SQL expertise, including database management and query optimisation.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Cloud Data Technologies, including SQL Server, Azure, Data Lake, Data Factory, Databricks, Fabric, Power Apps, and Power BI.

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of Agile processes such as Scrum, SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework).
  • Relevant certifications such as DAMA/CDMP, Microsoft Azure, BCS, TOGAF, or equivalents.
  • Experience in domain-based or data mesh architecture.
  • Retail, Pharmacy, Supply Chain and Product data domain experience.
