Scope of work & the value you will add to our customers:

You will be a key member of the Data Science & Analytics (DS&A) team and the broader Data Office, helping to drive the transformation of data understanding and use cases across the bank.

DS&A equips the bank with bespoke strategic data tools and intelligence, through knowledge and deployment of a broad range of technical methods. This supports deepening relationships with customers and anticipating their needs to provide first-class services.

The Data Office team is also is embedding robust data management practices, building strategic cloud data platforms and offering self-service data labs all supporting the banks business goals.

This Data Analyst role will be instrumental in supporting data-related projects and initiatives that enhance the use of data. The Data Analyst will undertake a two-year programme that will begin in Data Science & Analytics and the broader Data Office teams developing strong data skills. This will be complemented with multiple rotations across business departments for business exposure - working towards a permanent placement as a Data Analyst within a business function leveraging the data expertise gained through the programme.

Your work will directly contribute to achieving high business standards and outcomes through trusted and reliable data tools and insights.

Role & Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities include:

Design, develop and embed impactful insights and making these available for the wider business use
Ownership of the quality and delivery of your work to ensure timescales are set and managed against defined target outcomes; cultivate strong, trusted stakeholder relationships
Build deep knowledge of the business department to be able to connect business departments responsibilities, working processes and their data in order to generate actionable insights, drive informed decision-making, and align data initiatives with strategic business goals
Use the blend of your data and business knowledge to identify and promote opportunities where data and AI can help the bank achieve its strategic goals
Actively build and maintain your knowledge of working practices and techniques used across the core disciplines of the Data Office including data management, technology and AI
Operate as an ambassador for data providing guidance and coaching to colleagues to help embed best practice for managing and using our data
Leverage the strong relationships with the Data Office to help shape and inform future strategy to ensure relevant and impactful data solutions and services are supporting business colleagues
Support business colleagues by responding to ad-hoc analytical and data requests
Operate as an engaged, committed and active member of the data community helping embed collaboration and partnership across our business teams
Help create a high performing culture within your team to support first-class customer service and Good Bankers, Good Citizens initiatives
Adopt the high standards and working practices of the DS&A working environment by employing industry best practices for: version control, testing, validation, impact monitoring, peer-to-peer review and a culture of challenge

Requirements

Mandatory Skills/Experience:

Final year of a Data Science, Maths, Engineering, Data and Business Management or other relevant degree
Achieved at least a 2.1 rating
Previous internship or work experiences are welcomed
Involvement in extra-curricular activities that demonstrate your interpersonal and organisation skills
Knowledge of analytical techniques and experience in manipulating and deriving insights from data

Desirable Skills:

Python coding experience, knowledge of SQL and the ability to use statistical modelling techniques would be beneficial
Experience in using LLMs or other AI to accelerate and enhance work, such as for data analysis
Experience with Power BI or other visualisation tools
Ability to communicate technical concepts, ideas and solutions in an accessible way to non-experts

Organisation: Strong organisation skills with the ability to prioritise work effectively & efficiently to meet deadlines
Problem-Solving: Passion and curiosity to understand and solve business problem methodically and develop effective solutions
Attention to Detail: Precision in data handling and analysis to ensure accuracy and reliability
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present data insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Presentation skills will be key too
Adaptability: Willingness to learn new tools and techniques and adapt to changing project requirements
Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and understand diverse business need - personal relationships are at the heart of our service and culture
