Essential Functions

  • Design studies to assess program performance, utilization and patient outcomes that are methodologically sound and that take into account information resources currently available within the medical center.
  • To study time trends in utilization patterns and to compare different sub-groups of the population.
  • Tables and graphics prepared to document desired analyses.
  • Related activities include coordinating development of analysis with other MMC analysis.
  • Design data collection instruments for studies and projects conducted by members of the Department.
  • To work with Department researchers and practitioners to ask questions in such a way that the responses can be analyzed and that they do not duplicate existing enterprise information.
  • Data collection for research and for Quality Improvement is as complete as possible.
  • Related activities include developing routines to ensure strict maintenance of patient confidentiality.
  • Query existing medical center data resources using best available tools.
  • Need to integrate existing data sources with each other so as to produce valid results.
  • Queries produce accurate results, queries can be reused.
  • Related activity includes learning the necessary programming languages needed for the respective data resource and learning the idiosyncrasies of enterprise data systems.
  • Cleanse and manage data that were extracted from enterprise data resources to facilitate accurate interpretation and longitudinal monitoring.
  • To create, test and run management reports for CQI and for service improvement using enterprise data as well as data collected by Department members for specific purposes.
  • Reports are accurate and issued in a timely way. Conduct statistical analyses of extracted data.
  • Related activities include coordinating with other analysts and database administrators to be aware of changes in data resources that impact analytics.

  • Build in reliability checks and data cleaning techniques into instruments.
  • Manage projects and document them with structured files to document methods and to facilitate staff succession.
  • Ensure smooth transaction during periods of personnel turnover.
  • Minimal disruptions occur. Data accuracy is maintained during periods of transition.
  • Present study, methods and results in scientific format and other tailored formats depending on audience and managerial need.
  • To disseminate information about data systems throughout the medical center and to other professional groups.
  • Gauge level of understanding and clarity of-presentation.
