About Vinterior

Vinterior is the UK's leading marketplace for premium pre-owned furniture, offering a sustainable alternative to brand-new.

Since 2016, we've built Europe's largest collection of pre-loved pieces, spanning 25 styles and 100 categories, driving a circular economy for furniture. With 14,000 sellers and 400,000+ unique items, Vinterior is the #1 destination for preloved furniture and homeware in the UK.

Backed by top investors like Seedcamp, Venrex, Active Partners, and Channel 4 Ventures, we've raised £16 million to date. This funding will fuel our expansion as we aim to become Europe's leading pre-owned furniture platform within three years.

About The Role

The objective of the role is to uncover insights that will help Vinterior find and prioritise the best opportunities to grow GMV (gross merchandise value) and revenues, and to evaluate tests and initiatives that are launched to make the best decisions about them.

You'll run your own analysis projects but also keep our analytical tools working well, supporting the wider team in running their own analyses and expanding our data models as the business changes.

This role reports directly to the Chief Product and Technology Officer, but day-to-day will work with all functions in the business: product, supply, brand, CX and finance.

This role is remote, preferably in the UK but Europe on UK timezones works too. Some travel to London and/or other European cities will be required for offsites, once or twice a year.

Core responsibilities:

The key responsibility of the role is to use data analysis to uncover and evaluate growth opportunities for Vinterior, while helping the wider team use our data tooling for their own analyses.

  • Customer and commercial insights
  • Further Vinterior's understanding of its customers and generate growth hypotheses from this understanding, using customer surveys, feedback tools and qualitative methods in addition to data analysis
  • Conduct regular analysis of the inventory on Vinterior and what type of inventory is driving sales
  • Analyse opportunities to grow revenues
  • Product analysis
  • Support the Senior Product Manager with analysis to inform product strategy and feature development
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis on the results of product tests and experiments, and website changes, to understand their impact and share these results with the wider team
  • Data and BI management
  • Manage and maintain our Looker instance, adding new data models as necessary
  • Support and train the wider team to run their own analyses using Looker, Looker Studio, Amplitude and other tools
  • User acquisition and retention analysis
  • Analyse the effectiveness of user acquisition activity (marketing channels)
  • Help the business understand repeat purchase behaviour and customer lifetime value, making recommendations on how to improve it
  • Strategic expansion opportunities
  • Perform analysis to evaluate opportunities such as international or category expansion

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • You have at least 2+ years experience in an analyst role, in house at a digital and consumer focused company or with a consulting firm, ideally with a business growth focus

Who you are:

  • You are customer-focussed in your thinking and have a deep natural curiosity for how customers think and behave
  • You're exceptionally numerate and analytical; you have a strong academic record in maths and can demonstrate your skill across the full scope of analytical projects: defining objectives, designing and structuring analysis, methodology selection and execution, interpreting and communicating results
  • You have advanced skills in excel/sheets, comfortable using BI tools (e.g. Looker) and web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Amplitude)
  • You have strong coding skills for data analysis - SQL for analysis essential, Python desirable
  • You have experience and aptitude in survey design and qualitative analysis in addition to quantitative data analysis
  • You're excited about an independent analyst role with a broad scope, and passionate about helping Vinterior grow its business

How Many Data Science Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Data Science Job?

If you’re trying to break into data science — or progress your career — it can feel like you are drowning in names: Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, SQL, Spark, AWS, Scikit-learn, Jupyter, Tableau, Power BI…the list just keeps going. With every job advert listing a different combination of tools, many applicants fall into a trap: they try to learn everything. The result? Long tool lists that sound impressive — but little depth to back them up. Here’s the straight-talk version most hiring managers won’t explicitly tell you: 👉 You don’t need to know every data science tool to get hired. 👉 You need to know the right ones — deeply — and know how to use them to solve real problems. Tools matter, but only in service of outcomes. So how many data science tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most job seekers, the answer is not “27” — it’s more like 8–12, thoughtfully chosen and well understood. This guide explains what employers really value, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to focus your toolbox so your CV and interviews shine.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Data Science Job Applications (UK Guide)

If you’re applying for data science roles in the UK, it’s crucial to understand what hiring managers focus on before they dive into your full CV. In competitive markets, recruiters and hiring managers often make their first decisions in the first 10–20 seconds of scanning an application — and in data science, there are specific signals they look for first. Data science isn’t just about coding or statistics — it’s about producing insights, shipping models, collaborating with teams, and solving real business problems. This guide helps you understand exactly what hiring managers look for first in data science applications — and how to structure your CV, portfolio and cover letter so you leap to the top of the shortlist.

The Skills Gap in Data Science Jobs: What Universities Aren’t Teaching

Data science has become one of the most visible and sought-after careers in the UK technology market. From financial services and retail to healthcare, media, government and sport, organisations increasingly rely on data scientists to extract insight, guide decisions and build predictive models. Universities have responded quickly. Degrees in data science, analytics and artificial intelligence have expanded rapidly, and many computer science courses now include data-focused pathways. And yet, despite the volume of graduates entering the market, employers across the UK consistently report the same problem: Many data science candidates are not job-ready. Vacancies remain open. Hiring processes drag on. Candidates with impressive academic backgrounds fail interviews or struggle once hired. The issue is not intelligence or effort. It is a persistent skills gap between university education and real-world data science roles. This article explores that gap in depth: what universities teach well, what they often miss, why the gap exists, what employers actually want, and how jobseekers can bridge the divide to build successful careers in data science.
