£48,000 + Benefits or Day Rate

Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Data Analyst to join a dynamic team within the utilities sector. This role is crucial for providing key commercial insights and reporting to the senior leadership team, including board-level reports. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on automating reporting processes, improving efficiency, and driving data-driven decision-making across the organisation. You will work closely with various business units to ensure that reporting is accurate, insightful, and aligns with strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Board Reporting & Insights:
  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality board-level reports, presenting critical business performance data and commercial insights.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand reporting needs, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business objectives.
  • Ensure reports are timely, accurate, and aligned with the strategic priorities of the business.
  • Produce regular and ad-hoc analysis for board meetings, providing actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.
  1. Report Automation:
  • Lead the automation of reporting processes using advanced tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Excel macros) to reduce manual effort and improve reporting accuracy and speed.
  • Develop and maintain automated dashboards and reporting systems to monitor business performance in real time.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline data flow, automate routine reporting tasks, and ensure seamless integration of data sources.
  1. Data Management & Analysis:
  • Gather, clean, and analyse commercial data from multiple sources, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support commercial strategy, including revenue forecasting, pricing analysis, and cost management.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (finance, operations, sales, etc.) to ensure the integration of commercial data across the business.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure that reporting aligns with their needs and expectations.
  • Act as the key point of contact for MI-related inquiries from senior leadership, ensuring they have the information they need to make informed business decisions.
  • Provide recommendations based on data analysis that drive performance improvements across various departments.
  1. Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies to improve reporting capabilities.
  • Continuously review and enhance reporting processes to ensure they remain efficient and effective.
  • Identify key trends and performance drivers within the utilities sector and incorporate these into reporting frameworks.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience as an MI Analyst, Commercial Analyst, or in a similar role, ideally within the utilities or energy sector.
  • Strong expertise in developing and automating board-level reporting, with a focus on senior leadership and strategic decision-making.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and advanced Excel (pivot tables, VBA, etc.).
  • Strong SQL skills for querying large datasets, alongside experience in data manipulation and automation.
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and communicate these effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage and analyse large amounts of data with accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in preparing high-quality, clear reports for senior management.
  • A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
