Civil Design Engineer

The successful candidates must possess demonstrable civil engineering design experience. This position allows for some agile working, with up to 1-2 days working from home, and the rest in the Northeast offices.

Our Client

Our client is responsible for the construction, maintenance, upkeep, renewal, refurbishment and repair of electricity transmission and distribution networks, assets and systems. This includes sub-stations, overhead lines, underground cables, and all associated equipment, as well as renewable energy sources (wind, BESS, solar etc).

Overview

Our client now wishes to appoint a Civil Design Engineer. The main purpose of this role will be to take responsibility for managing the development and production of highly competitive and innovative civil engineering designs for multiple contracts, frameworks or singular projects, ensuring maximum opportunity and minimum risk, and that stakeholders receive a high-quality service, on schedule and to challenging budget requirements. The successful candidate will also contribute to general technical support activities, ensuring successful project assistance at the front-end stages and timely handover to operations, through to offering guidance and advice during the construction stage if required.

The Role

  • Preparation of civil engineering designs for a wide variety of electrical networks and systems projects, including renewable energy applications (wind, BESS, solar etc)

  • Providing designs for a variety of works and turnkey projects, covering all disciplines

  • Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers to develop partnerships for design solutions

  • Following up designs and offering feedback, advice or guidance as required

  • Attend site surveys, route walks and other meetings if necessary

  • Establishing key aspects associated with project, providing designs, liaising with internal departments and submitting final project capabilities

  • Evaluate supplier and subcontract returns to ensure compliance with specifications and documentation

  • Accurately undertake any necessary take-offs of drawings and schedules

  • Follow all company procedures for enquiries and design handling

  • Draft commentary regarding exclusions and clarifications associated with designs

  • Working with relevant business systems to maintain data integrity

  • Assist in the creation and management of processes for projects teams

  • Managing key stakeholder requests in a professional and timely manner

    The Person

  • Preferably possessing an HNC in a relevant discipline, the successful candidates must possess relevant demonstrable design experience and technical expertise

  • Possess strong commercial and business awareness to enable you to identify and recommend appropriate design proposals that meet customer needs

  • Highly motivated and accurate, as attention to detail is vital

  • Proficient in the use of industry related designs software across multiple platforms

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to adapt your style to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Utilise information and industry knowledge to produce innovative design solutions

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to use your own initiative as well as working collaboratively in a team

  • Ability to produce high quality designs and associated reports with minimal supervision

  • Possess design and build experience, as well as refurbishment and maintenance expertise, and with the ability to evaluate design scope gaps
