OVERVIEW

What We're Looking For

We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join ourDelivery & Collections Teamas Drivers and Driver Assistants. In these roles, you will be responsible for safely collecting and transporting goods - furniture/clothing, etc to multiple locations and shops. It is preferred that you're able to provide your own "drivers mate/assistant". Those with previous Charity and or Retail delivery & Collection experience are highly desirable (Salvation Army, Barnardos, BHF, Oxfam, Age UK, Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Support, Shelter, Mind, The Children's Society, Action for Children, Save the Children UK, St John Ambulance, Royal British Legion, Christian Aid, CAFOD, Samaritans, Crisis, Scope, Mencap, The Trussell Trust, or Removals, "Man In Van type/ ao.com, Currys, Argos, John Lewis, Very, Appliance Direct, Appliances Online, etc)

We can provide the van or you can use your own (LWB/Luton Van type with a tail lift is essential if providing your own van)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collection of Donated Goods:Safely drive the van to designated collection points to gather donations, ensuring items are handled with care.
  • Delivery of Goods:Transport donated items to charity shops, distribution centers, or individuals in need, adhering to delivery schedules.
  • Customer Interaction:Provide excellent customer service when interacting with donors and recipients, offering a positive representation of the charity.
  • Loading and Unloading:Assist with loading and unloading donated items, ensuring all goods are securely placed in the van and safely delivered to the destination.
  • Vehicle Maintenance:Ensure the van is kept clean and in good working condition, conducting basic checks and reporting any mechanical issues.
  • Health and Safety Compliance:Follow all safety guidelines and regulations while driving, loading, and unloading, to ensure a safe environment for yourself, passengers, and the public.


Requirements

Key Requirements:

  • Driving Skills:Valid UK driver's license (2 years driving experience, maximum 6 points, with experience in driving vans or similar vehicles such as LWB/3.5T)
  • UK Work Eligibility:All kust have the Right to Work in the UK
  • Vetting:All applicants must hold or pass a Criminal Record Check.
  • Navigation Skills:Ability to navigate effectively, using maps or GPS systems to plan routes and deliver goods efficiently.
  • Customer Service:Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with donors, recipients, and team members professionally and courteously.
  • Organisational Skills:Ability to manage collections, deliveries, and documentation, keeping track of schedules, inventory, and donations.
  • Problem Solving:Ability to quickly resolve issues such as unexpected delays or changes in delivery/pickup plans.
  • Physical Fitness:Ability to load, unload, and lift boxes or items (often requiring manual handling and heavy lifting).
  • Time Management:Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, ensuring that collections and deliveries are completed on time.
  • Vehicle Maintenance Awareness:Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance to perform basic checks (oil, tire pressure, fuel, etc.) and report issues when necessary.

  • Reliability:Punctual and dependable, with a strong sense of responsibility to ensure goods are delivered and collected as scheduled.
  • Trustworthy:Ability to handle donations and valuable items with care and honesty, ensuring all charity items are accounted for.
  • Friendly and Approachable:A positive, friendly attitude towards donors, recipients, and colleagues, representing our and our clients values well.
  • Team Player:Willing to work collaboratively with other staff members, both in the van, our and our clients operations.
  • Self-Motivated:Ability to work independently when needed, using initiative to manage your workload and handle challenges.
  • Flexible:Willingness to adapt to changing schedules, tasks, and locations as required.
  • Compassionate:A genuine interest in and a passion for supporting the community or those in need.
  • Attention to Detail:Ensuring all items are accurately documented, handled carefully, and the vehicle is kept clean and well-organized.
  • Flexibility:You must have full time availability across the week, which will include weekend working.
