Summary

The role works with stakeholders around the business to provide analytical services, such as the development of MI and BI reports, that support business performance, series delivery, and the technical basis of AQA’s standards and research functions. The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for leading the maintenance, continuous improvement, and standardisation of the current reporting suite, whilst also introducing new reports which allow AQA to monitor its end to end processes. The postholder will also work with colleagues across the business to utilise AQA’s data assets and relevant technology to support and enhance business performance, produce customised analyses for specific business needs and develop wide-ranging reporting on a number of different processes. This will require applying and developing specialist knowledge of appropriate software, technologies and data analysis techniques, including keeping abreast of developments in data visualisation techniques through formal and informal training and development.Landscape:
The role sits within Data Analytics Insights and Reporting, a team made up of Data Analysts and Analytics Engineers. The team sits within the Assessment Research & Innovation division, and provides analytical support to stakeholders around the business. The role is focused upon the delivery of MI and BI reports, and will be responsible for delivering this support to defined teams within the organisation, working to build relationships with the relevant teams. 

Activities:
Working with colleagues from across the business, develop and deliver timely data analyses and insights, providing planned and ad hoc analyses in relation to complex and varied business challenges
Provide proactive advice and guidance to colleagues on analytics and data visualisation related issues, and the relationship of these to their areas of work
Build effective working relationships with internal colleagues, influencing thinking in relation to analytical and data visualisation solutions
Develop and maintain collaborative working practices that feed into organisational objectives. Provide comprehensive and user-friendly data intelligence to users
Contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of the requirements for analytical and data visualisation services within the organisation
Represent the team on AQA groups, sharing insights to inform and support AQA decision making, where required
Contribute to the ongoing development of the team’s data management and quality control practices
Contribute to a motivated and positive team culture, focused on service delivery and continuous improvement
Produce accurate and timely returns for industry regulators
Ensure that projects meet business needs flexibly, responsively, and to agreed time, cost and quality criteria
Demonstrate commercial flexibility by undertaking other responsibilities which are of a commensurate level as business needs change
Working individually or with colleagues across Assessment Research & Innovation, ensure accuracy and transparency in relation to the data and insights produced
Develop knowledge of approaches to analytics and data visualisation, ensuring that all work uses state of the art methods, reviewing the impact of approaches taken by similar organisations
Work with colleagues across Assessment Research & Innovation to ensure that our analyses and data visualisations deliver outputs and outcomes that achieve impact targeted to the needs of the business
Ensure AQA is safe and legally compliant by applying AQA’s policies and other legislative requirements including but not limited to HSE, Equal Opportunities and ISMS
Work with others to achieve the organisation and team vision, modelling AQA’s values and behaviours, contributing expertise and developing self to achieve excellence

Need to know (to be successful in this role, you will need to know):
Expert knowledge of data visualisation techniques and software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, QlikView) in context of developing operational and management reporting for a variety of stakeholders
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to build rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders
Highly numerate and a good understanding of quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques, and their use in support sound decision making
Ability to understand stakeholder requirements and translate those into actionable tasks
A broad understanding of databases, data structures and their interrogation, including a willingness to acquire a detailed knowledge and understanding of AQA’s databases
Demonstrable experience for the role – a degree in an analytical, technical, or mathematical discipline may be beneficial but is not required
Ability to think analytically, to understand and synthesise complex, diverse, and incomplete information and to present reasoned arguments
Excellent general IT Skills and the aptitude to learn new packages and processes
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability and willingness to constructively challenge the thinking of others
Ability to compile and present analyses and insights in a variety of formats and styles
Ability to think creatively and solve complex problems
Ability to assess risk and recommend actions
Ability to understand the structure of data, and maintain high-quality data practices
