Power BI Developer

Location: Hampshire/Hybrid



Role Overview

Our client is undergoing a major transformation and is building a new data team to drive business insights and support key functions like data migration and management. They seek a dynamic and skilled Power Business Intelligence Developer to develop, optimise, and manage data infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision-making.


This role involves both business intelligence development and data engineering, including creating data models, dashboards, and reporting solutions. Additionally, you will contribute to the establishment of the gold medallion data layer for advanced analytics. Collaborating with SQL developers and system experts, you will ensure data is consumed efficiently and support end users by designing, developing, and deploying reports across the organisation.

Reporting to the Head of Data, you will play a key role in executing the company’s data strategy, supporting the DX program, and enabling business growth. You will also champion Power BI within the organisation, ensuring its adoption and effectiveness.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of insight-driven products across the organisation.
  • Work closely with Portfolio, IT, and Business teams to gather and document business requirements for reports and dashboards.
  • Collaborate with other experts to consolidate data and build a robust reporting layer to meet current and future analytical needs.
  • Ensure high-quality, structured data flows from source systems to reporting layers, providing accurate and timely insights.
  • Uphold data quality and security standards throughout system changes and reporting processes.
  • Partner with data engineers to build scalable data pipelines and models supporting the gold data layer.
  • Assist in the migration and transformation of legacy data to the new platform as part of the company’s digital transformation.
  • Leverage ERP expertise to define reporting requirements for future platforms.
  • Implement and maintain the BI roadmap, ensuring effective report creation, self-service capabilities, and compliance with GDPR.
  • Advocate for BI and Data Analytics capabilities across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align BI priorities and strategies.
  • Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and develop dashboards and automated reports.
  • Provide third-line support to the Service Delivery team as needed.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive Power BI development experience, including expertise in PBI Desktop, PBI Service, and content distribution.
  • Strong understanding of data management platforms, BI lifecycle methodologies, and data visualisation best practices.
  • Proficiency in SSMS or Azure Data Studio, dimensional data modelling (Kimball methodology), and data presentation in Power BI using DAX.
  • Expertise in writing efficient and robust SQL code to support dimensional data models.
  • Experience gathering reporting requirements and translating them into dashboards and reports.
  • Ability to communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and quality.
  • Experience mentoring team members in Power BI development and reporting best practices.
  • Ability to validate data to maintain reporting accuracy.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality reporting and analytics on time and within budget.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to influence stakeholders and develop innovative solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced environments and changing priorities while maintaining strategic focus.
  • Proactive approach to decision-making and risk-taking to drive product advancement.
  • Familiarity with project delivery tools such as Azure DevOps and experience working within project timelines.
  • Understanding of data structures, transformation processes, and best practices for business intelligence reporting.
  • Experience working with ERP data, particularly D365, is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of data lineage testing to ensure accuracy throughout ETL processes.
  • Collaborative mindset with a passion for continuous learning and staying updated on BI and data technologies.
  • Self-driven and adaptable to change within the company’s digital transformation journey.


Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dataverse, Data Factory, SSIS, and Azure Data Platform.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft D365 Finance & Operations and Customer Experience modules.
  • Familiarity with Fabric, Azure Synapse, and data management practices including governance, quality, and metadata management (MS Purview).
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications such as PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst Associate) or DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate) are a plus.
