We have been partnering with an organisation for the last 12 months who are going through an incredible period within their company where their order book is through the roof and have been hiring people accross all departments.

They have now highlighted a Bill of Materials Engineer due to their current one switching over to a different department within the business.

The Bill of Materials (BOM) Engineer is responsible for creating, managing, and optimizing BOMs to ensure accurate part specifications, quantities, and cost efficiency across all stages of product design, production, and lifecycle management. The BOM Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain, to support the successful development and delivery of products. This role demands a strong understanding of materials, engineering processes, and meticulous attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • BOM Creation & Management: Develop and maintain BOMs for products from concept through production, ensuring accuracy in part specifications, quantities, and revisions.

  • Cost Optimization: Identify cost-saving opportunities through efficient BOM structuring, standardizing parts, and sourcing alternatives.

  • Change Management: Implement and track Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) related to BOMs and collaborate with stakeholders to communicate updates and changes effectively.

  • Documentation: Ensure that BOMs and associated documentation are accurate, up-to-date, and available in the company’s PLM/ERP systems.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Design, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to ensure BOMs align with product specifications, production requirements, and quality standards.

  • BOM Audits & Validation: Conduct regular audits of BOMs to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with internal and external standards.

  • Data Management: Establish processes and controls to manage part numbers, descriptions, and vendor information in BOMs, ensuring data integrity and traceability.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of BOM processes and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and traceability across the organization.

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in BOM management, product lifecycle management (PLM), or related role.

  • Proficiency in PLM/ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Windchill) and CAD software.

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and cost-optimization strategies.

  • Familiarity with engineering change management processes.
