We are a full-stack shop consisting of product and portfolio leadership, data engineering, infrastructure and DevOps, data / metadata / knowledge platforms, and AI/ML and analysis platforms, all geared toward:
- Building a next-generation data experience for GSK’s scientists, engineers, and decision-makers, increasing productivity, and reducing time spent on “data mechanics”.
- Providing best-in-class AI/ML and data analysis environments to accelerate our predictive capabilities and attract top-tier talent
- Aggressively engineering our data at scale to unlock the value of our combined data assets and predictions in real-time
The Application Engineer Iwill contribute to the technological advancement of GSK, focusing on the development and support of data-driven applications. In this role, you will be involved in the development, deployment, and maintenance of applications that meet the needs of our scientific user base. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand user requirements, assist in the design of scalable and efficient application architectures, and integrate data analytics tools to enhance application functionality.
AsApplication Engineer Iyou will also participate in code reviews, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure the security and performance of applications. The role encompasses the maintenance and support of existing applications, focusing on high availability, reliability, and optimal performance.
Application Engineer I
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development, deployment, and maintenance of full-stack, data-driven cloud applications that serve our scientific community.
- Develop, measure, and monitor key metrics for all applications and services and consistently seek to iterate on and improve them.
- Operate and support applications deployed in a production environment.
- Take loosely defined mock-ups and producing rapid MVPs through to production grade experiences.
- Work with product teams on product roadmaps and developing end user requirements.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth in software engineering.
- Drive a culture of innovation, transparency, and trust.
- Operate within a qualified environment with a patient first mentality.
Why You?
Basic qualifications:
- BA or MA degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline
- At least 2 years of experience in independent backend development role
- Knowledge of Python or Go as a must-have, additional languages as a strong asset
- Experience with DevOps: (e.g. GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins; IaC experience like Terraform is a strong asset).
- Hands-on experience with containerization solutions: Docker and Kubernetes will be an asset
- Hands-on experience in developing and deploying applications in a cloud environment like Google Cloud (preferred), AWS, Azure
- Excellent English
- Ability to work independently
Preferred qualifications and skills (although not a must):
- Hands-on experience in front-end technologies: JavaScript, Typescript, React.js, Angular.js
- API development ability, using technologies and standards like REST/GraphQL/gRPC or similar
- Experience with code quality/security control tools (e.g. SonarQube or Blackduck)
- Experience with Microservice architecture
- Experience in Agile software development and Technical documentation, using common environments such as Jira and Confluence
