Introduction to team

Private Label Solutions (PLS) is the B2B arm of Expedia Group. We open up our supply and innovative technology to businesses looking to take on the world of travel. These businesses, sometimes referred to as our ‘demand partners’, include global financial institutions (e.g. AMEX), corporate managed travel, offline travel agents (e.g. Flight Centre), global travel suppliers (e.g. Delta) and many more.

We\'re looking for a Data Governance Lead to join the Expedia\'s B2B division and help drive data privacy, sharing, and management programs across world-class products and services. Working closely with central Expedia teams, the B2B Data Governance program strives to set the right decisions and accountabilities to appropriately treat B2B data as a strategic asset, including managing, leveraging, and protecting it accordingly. As we increase our investment and evolve in assisting and powering our partners through existing and new data products, we are looking for an outstanding data governance manager to equip our teams and products with the right data governance frameworks, controls, and guidelines.

What you\'ll do:

  • Define and ensure B2B\'s data privacy and sharing framework, partnering with Expedia Services\' data governance team and centralized practices.

  • Set guidelines and define controls to protect partner data across the entire Expedia ecosystem, through the implementation of access restrictions, training, and auditing.

  • Proactively identify data improvement areas and work with data domain owners to ensure maximum privacy and security.

  • Evangelize data management and governance across the B2B division, while working with services and product domains on new data product opportunities.

Qualifications and experience:

  • 5+ years of expertise in the data management space.

  • Experience working collaboratively with other functional teams, from product to technology, finance, controllership, and legal.

  • Strong communication and influence skills.

  • Experience starting, driving large-scale, and operationalizing data governance and data management initiatives.

  • Experience with data governance tools and related ecosystems, from large data-lakes in the cloud to classical on-premises data-warehouses (data catalog, data lineage and metadata management)

Why join us:

We’ll take your career on a journey that’s flexible and right for you, whilst recognising and rewarding your achievements…

  • A conversation around flexible working and what is right for you is encouraged from day one/your first conversations with B2B.

  • Competitive salaries and many growth opportunities within the wider Expedia Group.

  • Option to attend conferences globally and enrich the technology skills you are passionate about.

  • Cash and Stock rewards for achievers and impact.

  • Extensive travel rewards and discounts for all employees!

Summary: UK data science hiring has shifted from title‑led CV screens to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise rigorous problem framing, high‑quality analytics & modelling, experiment/causality, production awareness (MLOps), governance/ethics, and measurable product or commercial impact. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for product/data scientists, applied ML scientists, decision scientists, econometricians, growth/marketing analysts, and ML‑adjacent data scientists supporting LLM/AI products. Who this is for: Product/decision/data scientists, applied ML scientists, econometrics & causal inference specialists, experimentation leads, analytics engineers crossing into DS, ML generalists with strong statistics, and data scientists collaborating with platform/MLOps teams in the UK.

Why Data Science Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Data science once meant advanced statistics, machine learning models and coding in Python or R. In the UK today, it has become one of the most in-demand professions across sectors — from healthcare to finance, retail to government. But as the field matures, employers now expect more than technical modelling skills. Modern data science is multidisciplinary. It requires not just coding and algorithms, but also legal knowledge, ethical reasoning, psychological insight, linguistic clarity and human-centred design. Data scientists are expected to interpret, communicate and apply data responsibly, with awareness of law, human behaviour and accessibility. In this article, we’ll explore why data science careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these five disciplines intersect with data science, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to succeed in this transformed field.

Data Science Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Data Science Department

Data science is one of the most in-demand, dynamic, and multidisciplinary areas in the UK tech and business landscape. Organisations from finance, retail, health, government, and beyond are using data to drive decisions, automate processes, personalise services, predict trends, detect fraud, and more. To do that well, companies don’t just need good data scientists; they need teams with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, workflows, collaboration, and governance. If you're aiming for a role in data science or recruiting for one, understanding the structure of a data science department—and who does what—can make all the difference. This article breaks down the key roles, how they interact across the lifecycle of a data science project, what skills and qualifications are typical in the UK, expected salary ranges, challenges, trends, and how to build or grow an effective team.
